TRIAL IV
Trial IV
The story presses onward as you gather in this now familiar "courtroom" to deliberate the deaths of two more of your number. By now there's more space for everyone with the population dwindling down to twenty, and by this weekend's end it will dip ever further. But maybe in a time like this more space is needed, though one most always be mindful of the clock.
Adora and Norton Campbell are dead, and the price must be repaid.
[OOC NOTE: Please keep in mind the only mod run checks are those that directly involve a piece of evidence found during the investigation. Those checks that involve player participation will rely on each player's willingless to partake in the check, for the sake of keeping IC choices intact]
EVIDENCE
Discussing the evidence available is acceptable -- however, please try to show evidence on the first post of a comment thread instead of posting it as a reply on someone else's thread, to make it easier to find.
Take a look at a full evidence toplevel!]

The paprika shaker had also been messed with. There was a rust hue along the edges, and small white crystals that I don't think were salt. Why? They were coarse, but they had a faint scent of bitter almonda.
[ So like salt didn't really have a scent like that.
Anyway he had the paprika shaker with him as well. ]
Someone also tossed a lot of paprika into the garbage can.

cw: emeto, lounge + surroundings
Adora, Tenn, Makoto and I had a sleepover in my room last night
When I came out of my room there were chairs from the lounge blocking the door
They were only blocking my door so they looked deliberately placed
In the lounge there were overturned potted plants, lamps, a chair and a table
As well as a plate and cookies
The plants had knocked soil on the floor but the soil wasn't spread around any further than that
The cookies smelled like almonds and weren't the kind we had at the sleepover
The overturned chair had a crack in its armrest
There was the smell of bile
And a spot on the floor near the table that looked very clean
But the blood pool hadn't been cleaned up at all
The couch near the wall had a gash in a cushion
With some traces of blood

(norton bodytouch) dismemberment cw all the way down baybeeee
It looked like he was sawed through. There was some rigidness to his body, but nothing significant. There was a fair amount of discoloration to this skin, likely for the fact that his body was in the water for some time. He also had bruising on the outside of his forearms, but there was no discernible pattern to them.
He also had some cuts on his face, but they were shallow and were fairly irregular as far as placement and size.

APOTHECARY
There were several herbs missing. Foxglove, nightshade, opium, larkspur. None of the tools or equipment or gloves were missing, and whoever took these herbs obviously knew that they were poisons or narcotics. Interesting to note is that this wasn't a situation like last week where the entire jar was emptied, only a small amount was taken.
... Nothing else seemed to be disturbed. Even the jars and lids had been arranged properly once used.

CW: Emeto and Corpse Stuff, Lounge
Frau Adora vas poisoned. Zere vas a scent of stomach bile, vomit, ant almonds coming from her mouth, the latter of which is a common effect of cyaninde poisoning. Zough I vill admit, she vas missing the blue discoloration of cyanosis zat would be expected wis cyanide poisoning, instead having discoloration zat mate the area vhere blood sank through pinker zan normal.
Ze reason I am being so sorough in this description? Frau Adora's killer vanted to do all zey coult to hide zis fact.
Zere were six wounds spread over her body, five of zem stab wounts delivered post-mortem, mate apparent due to the amount of blood present being smaller zan expected for so many stab wounds. So, vhile her chest wounds may hit her lungs, it--and the stabs to her back and stomach-were more zan likely just attempts to hide vhat truly happened.
Zere vas one injury zat suggested more could have happened, but it is difficult to say concretely. Zere vas a laceration on her collarbone, wis light crushing and abrasions arount the edges of the wound instead of it being a clean cut-the worst of which being the skin directly over the bone.
But, as I said, considering the mesod of death? It is difficult to say concretely vhether zis was Frau Adora attempting to fight her killer, or if it was anozer ruse.
[And that should be everything, he's pretty sure.]

workshop
I also found something in the garbage can — a package wrapped in paper that I found to contain many bloody strips of white linen fabric that looked to have come from clothing. It was pretty well concealed, all things considered... the wrapping was also rather neat.
[ Like, compared to his bed making skills, anyway. ]

LAKE (cw for dismemberment)
I hopped in a boat and did a sweep around the lake where Morgan and I found Norton. The boat itself had signs of bein' used- I found scuff marks on the edge of the boat and on the floor. Maybe something was dragged inta it, considerin' how we ended up findin' him.
After a bit of hunting, I found Norton's lower torso and legs underneath the museum. They were visible from the glass floor in there.

general store
There was blood rubbed into the wood grain, like someone tried to clean it up.
Besides that, the table was broken. The interesting thing about it is that this table leg was some distance away. [ The way there are so many splinters and jagged-looking edges definitely proves it was broken off by force. ]
Near the counter, I found this compass [ It's cracked. ] and this kerosene lantern. [ Which is quite badly dented in one spot. ]
Lastly, I noticed there was a lot of glass. Almost too much. I brought some in case we can match the thinner ones to anything. The thicker ones matched the water bottles in the store, and there were only these two types that I could tell. [ Wrapped carefully in some parchment are thick shards of glass (from the water bottle, hard to break glass), and less thick ones of indeterminate origin. ]
It... looked like the fight started at the counter and progressed from there.

Everyone here knows I can indeed bake and I do have knowledge with poisons. That's how studying antidotes work. But I hope I don't present myself to be of such poor wit that I would use baking and poison to murder someone, as if the fingers would not point my way immediately.
[ A pointed stare. Because that's exactly what's happening right now. ]
Not to mention, I have been in public with my lady, eating sweets and enjoying tea with her. We've met quite often in the kitchen. To kill her with cookies after so obviously being in public with her, eating sweets?
I am very precise, and apparently, I am a particularly clean person. Why was the poor paprika just dumped so obviously in the garbage can? Why, then, would I have put the coat in the oven of all things? I know how ovens work. They're not convenient when it comes to burning clothes, I will tell you that.
But let me ask you some questions that need to asked. Why stage the fight, if it indeed was staged? The Professor has confirmed the wounds were done post-mortem. Explain the laceration on her collarbone. How did I do that? How would I have the strength to do that? How were the cookies baked in 20 minutes?
Now, if the cookies were from the bakery as some have suggested and used to mislead everyone into thinking the culprit could be someone who knows how to bake, then...
[ She'll leave that for people to figure out on their own. ]
Ask me what you'd like.
no subject
[She gives a weak smile, even if it fades quickly as she talks about the case.]
The cookies may have been prepared before the sleep even started, given they were either baked in the kitchen or grabbed from the bakery.
And we still have to figure out what could have caused that collarbone wound. Was it actively bleeding? Could something have hit Adora?

In the interest of time, let us move on and put together what we think may be a profile for Lady Adora's killer. Please use your best judgement, and do not solely rely on the profile.
We may be looking for someone who can cook rather than bake. So someone who has that listed on their portraits, or have demonstrated it during our gatherings. It is also someone who is familiar with poisons, possibly.
While Lady Adora is not picky when it comes to food, I have once cautioned her about eating things from strangers. That said, I personally think we are looking for someone she is familiar with or someone with an appearance that would help lower her guard.
[ So a friend or someone who looks young and helpless. ]
The bile was also cleaned up for a reason, while the blood was left undisturbed. Could the culprit have stepped in it? Would the smell have remained?
This is what I have so far.
