The clink of glasses, the clatter of utensils upon plates and the soft murmur of conversation flows smoothly in the warmly lit dining hall. It's a dinner party, a rather vivacious one at that, with the food flowing freely. Savory and sweet, regional specialties, refined and rustic, there's something for everyone. Omurice, chiffon cake, kimchi, sizzling porterhouse steaks—it might be more apt to call it a buffet than anything else.

Do buffets usually serve such a unique smorgasbord of food? And actually, weren't you doing something else? A free meal is usually a good thing but is anything truly free? Who are these people around you? And where exactly are you?

Whatever thoughts are racing through your mind, they're abruptly cut off by a note, high pitched G-sharp from a woodwind. All your senses return to you, though they won't tell you much. Maybe not all of them actually, if you're used to feats of heroic strength or manipulating reality or numerous other abilities. There is one clue at least, a heavy weighted paper beneath your plate, an embossed note rather than a list of courses.

"Enjoy yourselves. I'll come see you when you've had your fill. And don't try to dine and dash, huh? There's something I have—something I can do for you, after all. Besides, you've already agreed to the terms anyway!"

[ Norton Campbell doesn't shout. He doesn't even look that shocked. However, he certainly seems far from pleased with that bit.

It takes a moment to swallow that lump of dread in his throat. ]

You know, you know RULES! Everything has rules you gotta follow, that's just how stories work? If you don't follow the rules and go off-script...it all turns into a GIGANTIC MESS, ahahaha!

[ Tenn's blood runs cold. His eyes are wide open and his jaw drops. Immediately, without a second thought, he moves to stand right in front of Riku, wherever he happens to be.

Tenn will call over to their captor regardless: ]

You're joking, right?

[ Oh, he doesn't like that. Riku's eyes widen, and he grabs Tenn's arm. ]

No way... there's no way we'd do that! Expecting us to kill each other just for a wish?!

[begrimed]

[ Just laughing. ]

Not-at-all. I'm a piper, not a jester!

Yeah he's gonna let other people handle the questions to this one. ]

Why do you ask for a death in return?

That's the fair price. Considering what some of you are asking for? That's a bargain if you ask me!

[... oh. Oh HELL no, this has to be some sort of giant cosmic joke. Or revenge? One of the two.

The worst part is that he can't even claim he wouldn't be willing to do it.]

[She's just here to bluescreen with the others for a moment. But then, quietly:]

...Why? What purpose is there to killing the people here?

What purpose is their to life? What purpose is there to anything?

[ He goes dead quiet at that. But it looks like the rest of the group is talking more than enough for him, so he'll just stare frigidly and listen carefully to what else is being said. ]

For once, Jack is quiet, slowly sinking to a frown -- it's halfway to thought and somewhere in the midst of confusion, though he doesn't look entirely shocked or bewildered, still. Instead he looks more closely at their host, searching.

His voice too is softer when he speaks up again here.]

... You're not a Chain, are you? You must be a little different.

[Rika has been quietly listening up until this point. Of course--it all comes down to murder, doesn't it? Perhaps it was naive to think it wouldn't the moment this man started discussing wishes and whatnot.]

So then bringing all these people here...is it just a convenient way to get enough people willing to kill in one setting?

[A tiny grimace crosses her face. Rika isn't exactly eager to die again.]

...say we kill someone, but get caught. What happens to us then?

[The parrot does not speak at first, merely observing and waiting for the right time to ask questions.

How voult you go about granting wishes? You may be able to say you can, but I require proof before putting any trust in your vorts.

[Said as though he has any trust in this man at all.]

Could you even have the power to grant someone’s wish? Do you just happen to have a monkey’s paw or something?

[Edelgard can't help the snarl that appears on her face at this creature's mocking manner and the way he plays with their lives without a care. She doesn't trust him, she doesn't like him, and she's not sure she even believes him.

But she can't pretend that sacrificing one life for the sake of her goals doesn't sound like a bargain considering the amount of blood she's spilt already for less.

But the concept of a god, giving wishes, granting salvation, sending people to their deaths, makes Edelgard livid. The mere idea of taking this creature's help and not burying her axe into his skull by the end leaves a bad taste in her mouth.]

So you're claiming to have infinite power? And this is what you're doing with it? What a sad creature you are.
