The clink of glasses, the clatter of utensils upon plates and the soft murmur of conversation flows smoothly in the warmly lit dining hall. It's a dinner party, a rather vivacious one at that, with the food flowing freely. Savory and sweet, regional specialties, refined and rustic, there's something for everyone. Omurice, chiffon cake, kimchi, sizzling porterhouse steaks—it might be more apt to call it a buffet than anything else.

Do buffets usually serve such a unique smorgasbord of food? And actually, weren't you doing something else? A free meal is usually a good thing but is anything truly free? Who are these people around you? And where exactly are you?

Whatever thoughts are racing through your mind, they're abruptly cut off by a note, high pitched G-sharp from a woodwind. All your senses return to you, though they won't tell you much. Maybe not all of them actually, if you're used to feats of heroic strength or manipulating reality or numerous other abilities. There is one clue at least, a heavy weighted paper beneath your plate, an embossed note rather than a list of courses.

"Enjoy yourselves. I'll come see you when you've had your fill. And don't try to dine and dash, huh? There's something I have—something I can do for you, after all. Besides, you've already agreed to the terms anyway!"

[ He says that so resolutely, too, and he looks at C-ta expectantly. He's not about to ask if he would back, because there's no way Tenn would take a "no" at face value, so it wouldn't matter either way. Probably. ]

I can't say the same for anyone else, though, except...

To be fair, you don't need to be an anime character. You just have to be delusional and run around with decorative bandages.

Should I ask what an anime character is? [....... is it a bird thing] Is that something from a foreign country...?

[Quoth the pseudo-Victorian. Please help him, he has no frame of reference whatsoever for this. He even mispronounced anime, I'm sorry.]

[ Oh god, how is he even going to explain this? He doesn't even watch anime??? Miss Tosaka, help. ]

They're...televized animated stories? They're known for wish fulfillment, and if that bird is any indication, having fanatical audiences.

[ That's close enough, right? Right? ]

What's a television. Jack blinks several dozen times before he just grins, an easy no thoughts head empty grin flipped up like a two of hearts. Sure, why not.]

Well, I don't completely get it... but you're saying it's a character like in a popular novel, aren't you? Like one of those protagonists in the Holy Knight series, defeating evil and upholding justice...! That sort of thing.

I've actually met people like that. Too bad they're not here...

[All they have are birds, angels(?) and a large variety of confused and vaguely stabby people. Alas and alack.]

You have it right, sir. It's pretty much just like that, just with whatever is popular at the moment. So instead of knights maybe, it'd be...say, pirates if they were more popular when it was written.

[ Some things never change, he supposes. ]

I have a feeling we could use a pirate or two in our current situation. I think they're supposed to be good at breaking rules and... negotiating? Parley, I think the term was.

[Does he know that much about pirates, really. Has he read One Piece, no. He hasn't even seen Pirates of the Caribbean. F.]

But, haha, that's just escaping reality...

[ Yes, now let's all become a star! --Okay, probably not a good idea here. Let's stick with One Piece and Pirates of the Carribean. ]

I'm sure we don't need to be pirates to break rules and parley. We just need to proceed with caution.

[ At least, that's what he thinks. Rushing into things sounds like a good way to get someone killed. ]

Back to dreams of pirates and yo-ho-yolo we go.]

We don't have to be pirates, but it sure couldn't hurt. But, how right you are -- or would be if this realm were bound by the rules of common sense.

...To start off, someone you need to watch your word choice with. He's obviously trying to egg people on.

Come to think of it, he does seem very good at sowing discord for someone we've all just met (maybe), doesn't he? Though, I admit, I'm not sure how picking our words more carefully would lead to a better relationship with his rules.

Those are his rules, so he says -- the ones governing us and all around us.

He didn't ask you if you minded your wish being shared? Because I mean in regards to things like that. Something about that felt particularly...off.

[ To him, that's kind of a trap, considering he said there's a relation between their wishes and why they're here in the first place. ...Not that he would mind having whatever wish he can't even remember be said out loud. No reason for him not to have a normal wish. ]
