CHAPTER 6

CHAPTER 6

The dead now outnumber the living.

There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.

But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.

The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?

[[Welcome to Week 6! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. However, please try to keep investigations to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure.

In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for this week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST; this is the last week for murder proposals as week 7 is endgame. Also, please note the shop's discount on magnifying glasses! ]]

Is there something wrong with them

[They look like normal horses to him...?]
ideismo: (02. I have no restraint; no fear)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Hi, Suga.]

Those aren't horses.

[He seems adamant about this.]

Or if they are, they've been bred extremely strangely, and I'm not sure what they would have been bred with to get that sort of result.

[In fairness, the Empire very much utilizes dogs that appear to have been bred with monsters at some point down the line, but this is just odd.]
gemuinemanagement: (and pulse to pulse)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
They look exactly like the horses I'm familiar with
Maybe this is just a different worlds thing?

[What... what kind of horses are you imagining, Alexei...]
ideismo: (26. Doubting angels fall)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps so.

[These are so weird, though. Why is like the entire front half of them like that...]

As long as they behave like horses should then there shouldn't be much reason to debate them.

[The horses he's used to are actually far jumpier than this, so it should be fine.]
gemuinemanagement: (you move so fast)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
They seem fine to me
But I haven't seen many horses in person before
They're not used for travel much these days

[Mostly they belong to rich people with too much time.]
ideismo: (17. Among the thoughts and tears)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Then what is used?
gemuinemanagement: (I would I would I would I would)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Cars and planes
Cars are like
If you had a blastia-powered machine that carried you places
And planes are like that except that they fly
ideismo: (18. Of those I've served)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
...Both of those sound like absolutely terrible ideas. The cars admittedly less so.

[So says the guy who likes and constructs blastia-powered mechanical things.]

We have vessels that are powered by blastia - ships, mainly, so that people aren't entirely reliant on the wind and its whims. They aren't reliable at all times, however.

I assume you must be using a different power source, that's at least somewhat less volatile.
gemuinemanagement: (remember me)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't have blastia
But it was the closest thing I could think of

They're actually very reliable
Accidents happen sometimes but they're usually because of operator error
ideismo: (02. I have no restraint; no fear)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. So they're entirely manually operated?

[THERE IS NOTHING ABOUT THIS THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA.]
gemuinemanagement: ('cause for that instant)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Cars yes
Planes have autopilot but they need pilots there too in case something happens

I think they're trying to make self-driving cars
But they're definitely not on the roads yet
ideismo: (05. My purpose is set; my will defined)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Assuming I'm understanding correctly, the planes make the most sense to me, as this whole thing goes. A system that can function on its own when given commands to follow, but with manual controls as needed - I assume that's what you're referring to?
gemuinemanagement: (why don't you mind)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nod nod.]

The reason that doesn't work for cars is because there are all those other cars around
Planes have a lot more space
ideismo: (03. But powerless I watched)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Ohhhhhhh.]

So they're either far larger or more uncommon than cars.
gemuinemanagement: (why don't you mind)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Both
A car usually seats 4 people
A plane can seat 100
ideismo: (17. Among the thoughts and tears)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Huh.]

Can I ask you to draw them for me?

[He doesn't care if it's a good drawing as long as he can get an idea.]
gemuinemanagement: (Default)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[more fabulous touchpad art it is]

ideismo: (05. My purpose is set; my will defined)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[A masterpiece!]

I see. Thank you.

[That is so fascinatingly weird.]

We have nothing of the sort in Terca Lumireis - we use horses if we want to get somewhere in a reasonable amount of time. Carriages also exist, obviously, but otherwise it's horses or walking.
gemuinemanagement: (you move so fast)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Cars go much faster than horses
And planes much faster than cars
If you want to get to a different continent in a couple of hours, you take a plane
ideismo: (32. I'd only come here seeking peace)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Really.

[Okay, that is awesome, from the sound of it.]

I'm curious as to the power source, because I don't think we have anything that powerful. The size of the blastia required to power something like that would be immense.
gemuinemanagement: ('cause for that instant)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The engines used for things like that usually burn oil for fuel
Do you have oil?

[Crude oil is a natural resource, so they might have it in fantasy land, right?]
ideismo: (17. Among the thoughts and tears)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not as a power source, no.

[He thinks he knows what's being discussed, though? Maybe?]
gemuinemanagement: ('cause for that instant)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You should suggest people look into that when you go home
ideismo: (22. Of what you've suffered)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Why oil? Wouldn't it combust if mishandled?

[......]

Please tell me you're not intentionally attaching people to vessels powered by explosions.
gemuinemanagement: (down by the sea)

[personal profile] gemuinemanagement 2021-07-05 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I promise they're very small and controlled
