The dead now outnumber the living.

There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.

But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.

The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?

Cars yes
Planes have autopilot but they need pilots there too in case something happens

I think they're trying to make self-driving cars
But they're definitely not on the roads yet

Assuming I'm understanding correctly, the planes make the most sense to me, as this whole thing goes. A system that can function on its own when given commands to follow, but with manual controls as needed - I assume that's what you're referring to?

We have nothing of the sort in Terca Lumireis - we use horses if we want to get somewhere in a reasonable amount of time. Carriages also exist, obviously, but otherwise it's horses or walking.

Cars go much faster than horses
And planes much faster than cars
If you want to get to a different continent in a couple of hours, you take a plane

I'm curious as to the power source, because I don't think we have anything that powerful. The size of the blastia required to power something like that would be immense.

The engines used for things like that usually burn oil for fuel

Combustion engines are very useful and make many things possible that otherwise wouldn't be
And have been made very safe
You are probably safer in a plane than riding a horse

I have no doubt about that last part, at any rate; I never claimed the horses are reliable.

In fairness, I can't imagine people from other worlds taking well to magecraft, so it may just have to be irreconcilable.
