EXECUTION V
Execution V
The end of this weekend's trial brought many questions and little answers, but like clockwork the time for execution comes like normal. The tune this Sunday has a more cheerful energy than usual, much like the piece that heralded the start of investigation.
It might not do much to change the mood though, given the two men standing in the sealed off space, in the middle of all the mirrors. Raven is there of course, and the man with him is someone else who else who was a fixture of yesterday's trial, Yeager.

[His weapon (and Raven's) are both on the bed out of reach, so at least Tenn isn't likely to get stabbed???]

well. Not yet, anyway. He sure is here though, staring at Yeager like a deer caught in headlights for about five seconds before his feet pull him forward, lightly pushing the door open as he steps in.
Then, he just. Stands by the doorway. He's just hanging out there in his comfort zone, right next to the door where he can bolt away if Yeager decides to come at him with his briefcase. Okay, deep breaths... ]

[ He keeps looking like he wants to say something, but nothing comes out. ]

oh my god tenn, this would be absolutely hilarious under literally any other circumstances, but unfortunately the most he can manage right now is a hollow laugh.]

[ Ooookay. His look kind of flattens a little, and he lets out a little scoff and tilts his head. ]
I'm just surprised you allowed me to step inside.

[Piece the evidence together to find the killer. It's not really any different from any other trial.]

[ He looks away, putting his hands into his pockets. ]
It doesn't mean you can't be.
[ He sighs, stiffens a little, and forces himself to look back at Yeager. ]
If there's anything you want to say, then go ahead. I'm listening.

I apologize for refusing to answer you. I couldn't send Raven off to die. I was willing to sacrifice an innocent person, if it came to that.
[It's blunt, straightforward.]
I couldn't risk my own neck for him either, though. I wasn't expecting the Commandant to... do all of that, but I was willing to let him die if it meant Raven would live.
I am sorry for how I treated you, but I'm not angry. I understand what you were trying to do.
[For some people, sacrificing the wrong person to a game like this is never an option, and he can respect that. He can't agree with it in this circumstance, of course, but he understands.]

His tone is so even when he talks, and Tenn can't tell if it's easier to stomach that over if Yeager had raised his voice.
After a moment though, Tenn ends up shaking his head. ]
That's not necessary, Yeager-san. I've actually been trying to work up the courage to apologize to you. I know that many people wanted to respect Alexei-san's wishes, and I understand that, too.
But...I always tunnel in on finding the right person. It's why I told everyone about Moriarty-san, and why I was so adamant about figuring out Raven-san's involvement in this case. I know not everyone will agree with it, and I keep having second thoughts about it, too, so I get where you're coming from. ... For what it's worth, though, I went to speak to him yesterday.
[ It went surprisingly very, very well, too. ]

[ Yuri said something along those lines, Suga mentioned personal responsibility. Maybe he really ought to stop being so hard on himself, even if it doesn't make it hurt any less. ]
He thought that I didn't want anything to do with him anymore, actually, despite me thinking that he felt that way about me. Once that misunderstanding was cleared up, it went really well.
Raven-san...I can't say I knew him very well, but he did a lot for me during our time here. I told myself that's how I'd remember him.

[He doesn't exactly get it, because Raven's in a very different situation, but he understands better than most people.]
I think that's what he'd want, though. To be remembered fondly for all the things he helped you with. He... really was trying to help before this.
[Yeager doesn't know that for sure. It's possible he's wrong. But he isn't going to consider that possibility and he's going to continue to think the best of Raven as well.]

[ He asks because Raven just seemed like that kind of person. Someone who wanted to quietly help others. ]

Ja, I think he was. I can't say for certain - we really didn't know each other very well - but... I think he did want to help, ultimately.
[Despite everything, he was with Yuri and friends as Raven even then. Maybe he was able to find a different answer by that point in time. Maybe things would have been different if Hamelin had pulled him from then.
Yeager shakes his head at that.]
He did quite a lot to help me here, and he had no reason to trust me at all.

[ He's learning a lot about Raven today, huh. It's too bad he couldn't have learned while Raven was still alive. ]
So...you two were able to improve your relationship, then, because you were here.

We even joked about as much. It's the one thing we could thank Hamelin for.
[Obviously he's not going to thank Hamelin for it now, but you know.]

Well, Yeager-san, I'm glad to hear that, for what it's worth. Raven-san will live on in our memories; it's the best thing we can do for him now, if I had to guess.

I'd like to hear more about your world at some point, then. I think I have a fairly good idea of what being an idol is like, but I want to hear some of your fond memories of it someday.
