CHAPTER 5
CHAPTER 5
Almost half of the non-fairy population of Aira Niluc is gone.
Some may be feeling the absence of their fellow participants in this story. Others will stay focused on the wish they want to get. What never changes is that the story goes on, bringing you closer to the end -- and to another chapter. What will it bring this time?
Snow!
Snow as far as the eye can see, a cold blanket covering the new area. Some winter amenities are now available, ready for perusal! But that's not all there's to find: everyone also will find reminders of their homes, of people they know, of happier times.
Of their wishes.
Who will try to reach their wish this time?
[[Welcome to Week 5! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. However, please try to keep investigations to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure.
In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for this week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST! However, please note that you have the option of submitting murder proposals for a later week as well.]]

Anyway, Raven's story is short and to the point. No lingering on sentimentality or the horror that they both undoubtedly felt on seeing that the naval base was already gone by the time they made it there. He can imagine how difficult it was for Casey... and he can imagine how difficult it was to see.]
Did she? Even in the end...
[The words are soft and his attention returns to the water. Of course she was smiling. Because she was strong, because she was still fighting to protect as many people as she could - even if it was just one person, she'd consider it worth it.
But in the end, none of them were spared. He exhales slowly.]
Thank you for telling me. I... suppose it sounds a bit silly, but I'm glad to know.
[She fought and died for what she believed in. She saw it through to the bitter end and even then she didn't curse her circumstances.]
...She always was the strongest of... of all of us.
[It isn't easy to acknowledge it as his past even after all this time, but if anyone will understand that, it'll be Raven.]

She really was. There'll never be another person quite like her.
[He follows suit with an exhale before turning toward Yeager.]
I don't think it's silly at all, ya know. You deserve ta know, and I thought... Well, I thought ya might find it the tiniest bit encouragin'. Or at least gain a sense of closure from it.
[He can't imagine not knowing for all this time. He'd wondered back then, how far Casey's boyfriend made it before the end... Little did he know he'd see that man again one day, and that later on they'd be friends.]
no subject
[So yes, it's both. Encouragement and closure, for a wound that never truly healed. In some ways, he almost feels better, despite the horrific topic, the unpleasant reminder of everything he left behind a decade ago, and a companion he never would have expected.]
I think I can rest a little easier knowing exactly what happened to her.
[And maybe now he can embrace that one part of his life a little easier.]
no subject
Good. If I could give ya that much, then I'm glad I asked.
["He knows now, Casey. Maybe...maybe things might get better from here on out." He inwardly says as he looks back down at her smiling reflection.
...
Then, in the truest of Raven fashion, he claps a hand on Yeager's shoulder and sighs.]
Can ya believe it, Yeager? Another thing we hafta give Hamelin the barest of minimum credit for.
no subject
How truly awful of him! As though this whole situation weren't dreadful enough, he's even forced us to confront such things after a decade of avoiding them! I can certainly never thank him for that - can you imagine the look on his face?
no subject
[...that sounds so cheesy when he says it aloud, and Yeager can see on his face that he can't believe he even said it.]
no subject
Oh dear, this place really is starting to get to you. Careful, next you'll be going on about writing a better end to our stories, ja?
no subject
Please gimme a good gut punch if I do. I ain't cut out fer bein' the dauntless optimist.
no subject
[We've still got some people left who can do optimism everlasting, but at least he doesn't say it!!]
I'll let it go just this once, though~ But don't think I'll take pity on you like this again in the future!
