Almost half of the non-fairy population of Aira Niluc is gone.

Some may be feeling the absence of their fellow participants in this story. Others will stay focused on the wish they want to get. What never changes is that the story goes on, bringing you closer to the end -- and to another chapter. What will it bring this time?

Snow!

Snow as far as the eye can see, a cold blanket covering the new area. Some winter amenities are now available, ready for perusal! But that's not all there's to find: everyone also will find reminders of their homes, of people they know, of happier times.

Hey, if anyone could do it, Victor could.

[That's exactly why he'd trusted Victor for that particular mission, after all. He just... isn't going to mention what a rough time the two of them had against those shimmeras even working together...]

As long as he gets the information where it needs to go, we're set. They'll just have to make do without us for a little while longer until we get back.

[Because he's not about to even let himself entertain the thought that they might not make it back.]

And if we're really lucky, we'll return to the Heimdallr still being in one piece, no Barbatos-related damage involved.

...Yes, you're right.

And I suppose a silver lining is that the Empire is likely expending valuable resources trying to figure out why their tracking technology suddenly failed.

There, see? You're getting better at this whole optimism thing. Practice makes perfect.

[He goes silent for a moment, watching the puffs of his breath in the frosty air.]

... I still can't forgive her, you know.

[His voice is notably softer and more serious now. The topic change seems sudden, but as long as they're talking about optimism... there are some things that even he can't manage to be optimistic about, and he figures he might as well be honest about that.]

Mm...

[ His smile from a moment ago quickly fades, and he adjusts his scarf, pulling it up to cover his face a bit more. ]

Yes, I know. I don't expect either of us to change how we feel.

[mirrite]

At this point? I'd be a lot more surprised if you did.

[It's the answer he was expecting, honestly, and he's known and accepted this for quite a while now, even before he figured out what his own feelings on the entire situation were. They're both hopelessly stubborn in their own ways, though on very different subjects.]

And I suspect that holds true the other way around, right?

[When he sees that smile fade, he's already lifting one hand up to give his shoulder a slight reassuring squeeze before the rest of that sentence is out of Phil's mouth.]

[ He does relax a little with that touch, though he just blinks at the question. ]

The other...?

That you'd be shocked if I changed my mind, too.

So as long as we're coming at this from the same angle, there's no problem.

[ Ah. There's a pause, but then he nods. ]

Yes... right.

[ Personally, he still feels guilt toward both of them, for different reasons, but... at least this helps with part of that. ]

And I'm going to keep telling you that until you believe it, because you're not looking entirely convinced here.
