CHAPTER 5

Almost half of the non-fairy population of Aira Niluc is gone.

Some may be feeling the absence of their fellow participants in this story. Others will stay focused on the wish they want to get. What never changes is that the story goes on, bringing you closer to the end -- and to another chapter. What will it bring this time?

Snow!

Snow as far as the eye can see, a cold blanket covering the new area. Some winter amenities are now available, ready for perusal! But that's not all there's to find: everyone also will find reminders of their homes, of people they know, of happier times.

Of their wishes.

[ Makoto doesn't ask, doesn't share. But he smiles up at him anyway. ]

It is I wonder why they're showing us this

[The same as the visions of people from home in the mirrors? Or something else?]

I... don't know. I'm not sure this is a fairytale I've read before.

I thought they were spirits, so I didn't really expect to find memories in them.

So far I've only recognized Momotaro and Hansel and Gretel What ones are there about wintery places

Oh, the desert was Arabian Nights, I think? Like, Ali Baba?

But... the only one I can think of that's wintery is Yuki-onna? Or.. [ does this count, well probably but he hesitates... ] Christmas?
Neither really fit, though. I mean, I haven't looked around everywhere yet, but I get the feeling it's something I'll have to try and look up.

Is Christmas a fairytale I feel like saying that might offend somebody

Yeah, but would you put it past them to use it even if it wasn't?
A lot of fairytales are based on real things. History, actual people, all kinds of things go into them.

[ Actually, Makoto means the jobs his mom would've given to him as a kid but details, details. ]

[ Makoto nods, smiling. ]

That's fine I can imagine some people probably wouldn't want to eat it if they didn't see it prepared

Isn't that what the holiday is about -- spreading happiness? Something like that?

Yeah... you're right. I guess that's why I'm happy to have your help.

[ Suga also qualifies. But after another short stint of silence, Makoto's gaze drifts again; past the wisps and across the landscape. Of course, he'll glance back for an answer as it's become a habit at this point. ]
