CHAPTER 3

CHAPTER 3

The number of murders increased in the span of one week, and so did the number of deceased people. Four people dying in the span of a week is a noticeable change, reducing your numbers to 25. Though the bakery has been cleaned up and fixed back to the state it was in originally, now that the specter of murder has fully settled in, perhaps some of those currently alive wonder how many will be around at the end of the new week.

It's fortunate now everybody can ponder it with a colorful change of scenery. Despite the situation everyone has been in, the world around them were plausible, even perhaps mundane to some extent. The scenery that unfolds beyond a canyon to the east drives home a point:

You're in a world far perhaps, beyond your wildest imagination.

It's a land of sweets. Wherever you look you can see something that's both full of sugar and joy. You could reach anywhere and you could get something that will make your mood soar and your day get better! After all, there's something for everyone! What wonders will you find if you search hard enough? This is a paradise for a sweet tooth! The sight, though, may make one question pop up:

Will this candy land be dirtied with blood? Only time will tell.

[[Welcome to Week 3! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. However, please try to keep investigations to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure.

In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for this week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST! However, please note that you have the option of submitting murder proposals for a later week as well.]]

[ Less surprisingly, Phil is also wallflowering tonight, and after a couple of awkward and probably not particularly subtle glances over in Yeager's direction, he eventually makes his way over to him, holding his drink in both hands so he doesn't have to think about what to do with them. ]

Good evening. [ clears his throat ] I won't take up too much of your time, but... I-I'd like to apologize for how things went at the end of the last trial. I know that must have been very stressful and frustrating, so...
scythegun: (LISTEN ⇝)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-16 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's noticed it, sure, but he figures Phillip will probably make his way over eventually if he's got something on his mind. And he sure does!! Hi, Phil, take a seat if you'd like.]

It was, ja. [That much is easy enough to say, but there isn't any bitterness or anger in it.] But that certainly isn't your fault. I've been meaning to apologize to Marcus as well for casting further suspicion on him... but I suppose I got a bit distracted when I found out we had a bar.

[...tuesday basically did not exist for him, don't worry about it.]

Anyway, you have my apologies as well for that.
biqe: (shooting stars in the night)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-16 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ VISIBLE SIGH OF RELIEF... and okay, he'll sit... though he looks a little unsure about it, because this feels like he's committing himself to a whole conversation now and he's not great at those!! ]

Ah... you really don't need to apologize for that, either. I'm sure none of that would have happened if it hadn't come down to the wire like that.

[ He absolutely wouldn't have mentioned any names himself if everyone hadn't been looking at Marcus with just minutes left on the clock, anyway... He was still beating himself up over what happened with Yor the week before. ]
scythegun: (GLANCE ⇝)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-16 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Precisely. Desperation certainly does have a way of bringing out the worst in some people.

[But he shrugs once that's out there.]

What happened to SQ truly was tragic. We'll certainly need to do better in the future, and now we know how things will go in a worst case scenario.

[Will it actually help? Mmmmmaybe. But hopefully next time will be less of a disaster!!]
biqe: (staying home can't be that bad for me)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-16 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There's a bit of an uncomfortable smile at that first part, and he's glad when Yeager continues on so that he doesn't have to comment on it. ]

Yes, absolutely. I hope we don't have reason to end up in a trial like that where we have to solve multiple murders again, but if we do, I...

[ Glances at a few people — not judgmentally, but... ]

I think that as a whole we need to make more of an effort to stay focused, regardless of what anyone may be feeling. But hopefully that's apparent to everyone now.
scythegun: (REALIZE ⇝ estelle's the princess?)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-16 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That's my thought as well. I'm sure most of us will remember what happened and be far less eager to jump to baseless accusations. But only time will tell, and I do hope that we won't end up in a similar situation again.
biqe: (i have no idea what's going on lately)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-16 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Nods, and takes a sip of his drink...

...

God, he sucks at this!! ]

Um, s-so what is it that your guild does, exactly? It's not a fisherman's guild or something, is it?

[ The name kind of sounds like it should be, but nothing else about his profile implied that. ]
scythegun: (RELAXED ⇝ hahaha wow)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-16 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[you're doing your best, phil!!!]

No, no, we're essentially mercenaries. We take whatever jobs we're paid for, which lately has been a good amount of working as bodyguards.
biqe: (no one escapes their life)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-16 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Man, he would have had more to say if it actually was about fish. #islandlife ]

Ah... like for traveling merchants and such?
scythegun: (NOD ⇝)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-16 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[rip the fish dream....]

Ja, precisely. Where I come from, there are monsters everywhere, so it's a bit difficult for people to travel without assistance from trained fighters.
biqe: (projected endlessly)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-17 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ nods ]

We have a fair number as well, though thankfully there are really only certain ones that pose a significant problem... I suppose that at least brings you good business if nothing else.
scythegun: (RELAXED ⇝ hahaha wow)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-17 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly does, ja. Though at this point I'm far more used to people here being surprised by the monsters...

[Absolutely wild that there are worlds out there that have like, normal people problems?? Can't relate.]
biqe: (watch the world move backwards)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-17 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm... I suppose that subject hasn't really come up in my conversations here, now that I think about it.

[ But that's kind of interesting. Not the most major change, obviously, but he'd kind of taken for granted that monsters probably existed in most of these other worlds, even if some of the people here never had any reason to encounter them. ]

There really is much more variation between worlds than I thought there was.
scythegun: (SHRUG 2 ⇝ the shruggening)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-18 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
The more I learn about other worlds, the more I wonder if Terca Lumireis may be the odd one out.

[It may actually be a total disaster...... nah, surely not.]
biqe: (how you choose to see it)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-18 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
There are over a dozen other worlds that have a lot in common with it and each other, though — they have the same currency, medicinal gels, and other items, and many of them share monsters and even spirits with the same names.

[ He didn't really mean to just drop that implied familiarity with Terca Lumireis there, and as he's both caught up in this explanation and slightly inebriated, it doesn't actually register that he did. ]

I have wondered since getting here if maybe it isn't the case that worlds share more commonalities the closer they are to one another, and fewer when there's greater spatial distance between them.
scythegun: (HUH ⇝)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-21 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[Whoa, so there are that many that share so much in common...?? That's wild. It'll probably hit him fully later how Phillip knows that, but for now he just looks sort of impressed.]

That's certainly interesting! I wonder if that had any impact on why there are some of us present from the same worlds... Or maybe that was simply Hamelin's idea of fun, I'm really not sure.

[It's at least partially because it's Hamelin's idea of fun.]
biqe: (when it's all the stupid things)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-21 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Since there is so much variety here, I assume those constraints probably aren't too much of an issue for him, so... I'd probably lean toward the latter, honestly.

[ Hamelin sucks. ]

The types of relationships between each set of people from the same world seem to differ quite a bit as well, so he might just be trying out different things to see what makes for the most interesting story.
scythegun: (... ⇝)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-22 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes sense; I have to wonder if this is his first time gathering a group of us like this or if we're simply another chapter in whatever story he's writing.
biqe: (amidst the wreckage of our past)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-23 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I've wondered that as well, especially with the existence of that dusty spare room... it made me wonder if someone had stayed in that room previously, but this time around we were one... "character" short for whatever reason.
scythegun: (REALIZE ⇝ estelle's the princess?)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-23 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That is odd. I never really gave it much thought, but it does seem strange that he'd make a mistake like that... Could it be that someone he brought here was uncooperative and they were killed before our "chapter" started?

[That's just pure speculation, he hasn't examined room 5 at all despite it being right next door!!!]
biqe: (no one escapes their life)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-23 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's possible... though I think it would have had to have been a fair bit before we remember waking up here. The dust and stale air inside the room indicated it had been empty for a long time.
scythegun: (RELAXED ⇝ hahaha wow)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-06-23 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's true. I suppose we don't really know how time works here and for all we know we're missing more than just the memories of arriving here... But that's likely overcomplicating things! Perhaps we'll figure out more about the mysterious former occupant of room five eventually!
