Early to bed, early to rise. At least it seems that's how it was for you last night, no matter what you were doing. Given the events of the past weekend, you might find your mind jumping to conclusions.
[Well, at least the floor and ceiling are intact. The structural integrity of the bakery has not been compromised by an inhaler! Rejoice. He will not rejoice because for all he knows this is a bomb. Please ignore that bold I am just being dumb.
More seriously, while he's following this trail of inhaler crumbs: how far away are these pieces getting? Like they were yeeted?]
[ Decently far away conceivably in yeeted distance. In other words they're farther away then you would expect them to be if they were just dropped on the floor.
Also because I can read and because Jack was on the floor, there are some scattered confectioneries on the floor too. ]
...ah. Tenn looks over at the broken contraption. Since it's been established OOCly that this is an inhaler, is this an inhaler that Tenn would recognize as Riku's? He's seen it plenty of times, he'd be able to determine if it's his pretty easily. ]
[Jack looks like he would very much like to say more, but as eloquent as he normally is — after a moment, he simply closes his mouth and reaches out to put a hand on Tenn’s shoulder.
It’s a light, gentle weight before he retracts his hand to help hold the inhaler together again, because the little pieces are apt to just. Roll away.
We’ll get back to the confections in a moment, he’ll let Tenn examine the inhaler since he seems unusually interested.]
... Ah, and. I wasn’t sure what to make of this. Do you know what this device is?
[ Whoever did this -- yikes. Big fucking yikes. He appreciates the condolences from Jack; he may look tired and out of it but he'll at least bother to nod in thanks. He wants to confirm something: ]
...Thank you. But this was like this when you all got here, right? And not something that happened during the investigation? It's...something that belonged to Riku.
[He hasn't even gone that far into the bakery yet but yes. If he knew the slang it would be yikes all around and down the street. There's a pause as he glances again at the little pile of metal and shards in his hands, tilts his head just a little as though trying to imagine the medicinal properties of... whatever this was.
He has no frame of reference at all, though. Perhaps it's just a medicine box.]
No, we have been very careful while investigating. I paid especial attention to the position of everything before I gathered it up, and I was going to find someone who might be able to piece it back together... [it seems his spatial memory is fairly good, because he secures the ex-inhaler and then easily points out the original position and the general area of how the pieces were scattered, all the way out] It was lying here, crushed like this, and the pieces were lying here, here, and then a good distance there.
[ God, hearing all of this makes him feel sick. Someone crushing Riku's medication -- they really didn't need to do that to kill him, now did they? It just feels like an extra gut punch. ]
Whoever did this is sick.
[ He'll save his other comments for the trial, he supposes... ]
Thank you...for helping with this. I know...you would've done this for anyone else, but... I want to find his killer.
All of this does not... seem to be the product of a sound mind. Riku certainly did not deserve such a fate. So...
[There is an apologetic note in his voice, possibly for getting caught up enough in trying to remember the details that he didn't properly couch his description, but there are very few ways to soften a scene like this. And all of the broken things in this; all of the broken pieces rattling around both within and without.
It seems as though it is Tenn's wish to look directly at it and to move forward, else he wouldn't have come directly to the scene this way -- regardless of what he might find. So after a hesitation, Jack nods.]
We must find this individual for his sake, and everyone's as well. Just be careful as we confront each other this coming judgement. We don't yet know just what this culprit may do if cornered.
[Also, since they're presumably both staring at the floor, I'm just going to ask what's the state of the floor pastries.]
[ Scattered about and a few have some blood on them, so unfortunately the pastries are deceased. While he's looking at them he'll also notice that there's some glass on the floor near the shattered display cases. ]
[Just in the interest of time I'm going to branch off real quick and say this takes place a little later after they've gotten their dead people murder drama out. Sooo... Is there a particular type of pastry corresponding to the displays? Does the blood look like they just rolled on the floor or was someone beaned to death with a croissant? Overall does this just look like collateral damage.
Also what's the deal with the glass, does it look like it came from the display cases?]
[ The blood is more in line with them being rolled on the floor than death by croissant. The type of pastry matches up with what's been destroyed in the outer cases so there's some cupcakes, cookies etc.
The glass does look like it came from the display case! On that note is Jack on the floor again as he's doing this? ]
[Okay, so definitely collateral damage... Somebody really had it in for this bakery. What's the position of the baked goods relative to the inhaler and the display cases, by the way. While I'm at it, what about inhaler relative to footprints? We might need a diagram for this bakery because this scene is a mess.
He's crouched on the floor for a closer look, trying to take care not to accidentally bang his head on the display cases or something -- but yes.
Anything unusual with the glass? Inquiring minds need to know.]
[ You know what's actually a mess? my handwriting and the fact that I haven't used a tablet in 5 years.
While he's on the floor by the inhaler bits (and I didn't draw in the diagram bc please save me) there's some vertical display stands with cupcakes no one wants to eat anymore in them kinda like this except he can see under it from the floor. And what he spots there appears to be something dark and brown? He can shimmy behind the display mind, or he can move it because it's not heavy. ]
[You’re the best fruit. The entire bowl is the best fruit but you get fruit MVP for the day ~ ☆
Dark and brown..... dare he hope it’s chocolate? It is probably sadly not chocolate but Jack will... carefully shift the display a little because he doesn’t want to knock it over by accident. We don’t need any more broken bits in here... What does he uncover...?]
[Wait??? This is a little alarming to find suddenly under such nice (somewhat not-as-nice) cupcakes...?! Not that it should be a surprise but you know. Uh. Well. He sort of stares at these murder boots for a few moments like a deer in headlights before he remembers that he’s actually supposed to interact with them. Yikes.
Just... going back to a crouch where he’d startled back up to his feet and doing his best to examine these things. How bloody are they? Is he going to need new gloves??]
[ They're pretty bloody like everything else around here, even though they were stashed behind the display case. We're talking about blood splatter on them first, for starters.
Jack should find Yeager and commiserate in the glove department. ]
[He will... definitely do that later. They’re perfectly white too, but at least the boutique’s likely got him covered. With a small wince he’s going to try to pick them up by a non-bloody bit for a more careful perusal.
Also we’re going to speed-run this because we can:
1. Comparing the size to the footprints from earlier 2. If they don’t match, comparing them to everyone in the bakery 3. Is the bottom bloody? Or is it other parts of the boot? Anything unusual about the blood splatter? What direction is it? 4. Anything inside them???]
1. The boots are a conceivable match for the footprints! 2. he can compare them to everyone else you can probably give the option the boot because of the previous answer! 3. The bottoms are very bloody. Most of it is just on the bottom although there may be a small flecks here and there on the top and sides of the boots. 4. Only the smell of sweet sweet feet. Wait, that sounds kinda gross actually, I take it back--]
[Wow he’s not sniffing it?? He’s not resorting to that, somebody else can do that goodbye.
Okay a few more questions:
1. What type of boots are these? Old or new? Wear and tear? Do they look like they could have come from the boutique or are they more unique and could have conceivably come from someone’s world? 2. Unisex or no? 3. Does the blood look to be about the same consistency/dryness as the rest of the blood in the bakery? Is there some way like tread etc. to match it more directly to the footprints?]
1. They look pretty new, or as new as a pair of boots can look while being covered in blood. 2. Unisex. 3. The blood on the boots is in line with the consistency of the rest of the blood in the bakery. As far as trying to make a tread match goes, its a conceivable match to the footprints but due to the general state of mess in here it's impossible to get something as a definitive match. ]
