CHAPTER 2

CHAPTER 2

The first chapter was over. The stakes and mechanics of the system you're in have been shown to their full extent, and regardless of how you feel about the Samidare and Zola's deaths, the story must go on.

Clean-up is done with a perfection that'd make you wonder if there ever was a murder on that rooftop in the residential district. Everything is spotless and repaired, making it look like nothing ever happened. If it wasn't for the absence of two people among your number, you'd think it had all been a bad dream. But it wasn't. The brutality of the incident and the execution make that plainly clear.

Now, with the opening of a new week, something else opens. Lands beyond the area you spent seven days in. What will the new week bring? Will it be another murder?

Keep turning the pages and find out.

[[Welcome to Week 2! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. However, please try to keep investigations to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure.

In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for this week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST! However, please note that you have the option of submitting murder proposals for a later week as well.]]

[ He hesitates, a moment. Riku keeps plunking away at the keys in no particular order. ]

I just didn't sleep well. [ It's more than that, of course, but..... ] What about you?

[ She replies with a nod. She seems fine, at least, but she's a little more reserved given all that went on yesterday with Zola. She approaches him and the piano, watching him poke at the keys quietly. ]

Do you know how to play?

Ah, not really...

[ He gives her a sheepish smile. ]

I'm better at singing. I never learned any kind of instrument when I was younger, so...

[ He scoots over on the bench, then gestures for her to join him. ]

Do you know how to play?

A little. It's been awhile since I have, though.

[ She hesitates, like she's unsure about something, before moving her furled hindwings out of the way as she sits down next to him. ]

Your voice is an instrument, in its own way. Songs have a great deal of power.

[ Figuratively and literally. ]

[ He's happy, at least, that she's joined him. And as she says that, he smiles. It's a tired sort of smile, but it sure is an effort. ]

That sounds like something Iori would say... Ah, but you're right. I guess that's why so many people love music and the people who make it.

[ Making people happy--that makes him happy. It's all he wants to do, really. ]

You should play something. Anything. Even if it's been a while, I want to hear.

[ She doesn't immediately respond, before nodding again and adjusting herself on the bench. Her hands gently go up to the keys, and after another moment she starts playing a sort of simple melody. ]

[ He's quiet as he listens. Music--it's a way to connect to people. Riku's always treasured it for that. That, combined with the melody, simple as it is....

When she's finished, he smiles. It's not the tired, quiet thing from before, but something true and easy. ]

That was really beautiful, Morgan. Where did you learn that?

[ It doesn't take long for her hands to fall from the piano and settle into her lap, her eyes closing for a moment. ]

I don't remember when, specifically. [ pauses ] It's just... something I learned from home.
