FINAL TRIAL

Final Trial

This Friday morning you've investigated as has become commonplace, even if the circumstances have shifted. And now it's time to take stock of what you've found, what options you have, what options you don't, in the lull of action you have left.

The abyss in the fountain beckons, but doesn't demand quite yet. Who knows when that will change, though.

[OOC NOTE: You'll have the first hour of trial to discuss what you found in final investigation yesterday, and then we'll get this show on the road! ]

Oh, you're not wrong about that. Well, your presence here is enough of a gift. But even if it may be hard to believe I'd rather this not turn into a bloodshed.

[Because it'd be such a hassle to clean, ew]

Oh yeah? Well, now I'm flattered.

Can't blame you on the bloodshed thing, though. You've got a pretty nice place here-- wouldn't want to mess it up, right?

Exactly! Besides, I know you all love to make incredible messes and spill blood. I have been watching your trials and the executions. Such brutality is so unbecoming.

Not your thing, huh? But you gotta admit it's a little strange that you'd choose a game like this if you didn't like that aspect of it. At least on some level, that is.

Oh, the idea wasn't mine. I was...inspired. You see...

[The Beldam leans on the counter, as if she's about to tell something that she has thought a lot about]

Some time ago I was here. All by myself, pondering what to do, when I saw something pass by. When I got it, I found it was a soul -- or what was left of it, at least. I should have tried to consume it, but I had pity of it.

[More like she thought it'd be useful]

So I decided to give it a bit of...a new life. Can you guess who it was?

[Any ideas, Marcus?]

What, you mean the guy we thought was our host at first? I'll give you credit for that, we couldn't even tell that anything was different about him in the beginning. He seemed just like any of the rest of us.

[Thanks for confirming this, at least!]

Exactly. Dear Hamelin.

[The Beldam nods]

Hamelin works so hard! I couldn’t just let that go ignored, so once I got his cooperation-- [More like once she chained him to her will] --I decided I should set everything up in a way he’d enjoy! I got inspired by his life back at his home. It was a complete hassle, but I cannot ignore the doting side of me.

[The Beldam sounds so proud of Hamelin, but it’s so twisted there’s nothing heartwarming about it]

He’s been so thankful he has led this game. I have seen him; he had such a great time it made me happy too -- and he has shown gratitude as well. I don’t regret indulging him in his skills, even if they’re outright barbaric.

[She can’t criticize said barbaric methods given she was the one who created the framework for everything to function, but the Beldam is very hypocritical, so she doesn’t realize that]

I listen to my guests’ and loved ones’ hobbies and likes. It’s just how I am.

Yeah, he sure did seem to be having a great time here. That was nice of you to just let him have what he wanted like that without asking for anything in return.

[What will happen if he just plays dumb here...]

Then again, you do seem pretty fond of him.
