FINAL INVESTIGATION

Good morning and happy Friday. Despite the sense of the coming end, today starts off just like any other Friday in Aira Niluc, with a song finding its way to your ears. Normally this would be followed by an announcement, but there is only silence in it's wake.

The curious might be piqued to gather where what's becoming familiar by now, and they'll find that the fountain is completely drained, leading downward into a completely dark abyss. An emerald slide glitters, clearly an invitation of some sort, but it's probably not best to go down there until you're all prepared. Take stock of what you need, explore to find any other changes in the world, and then gather together.

[ The second part reads as follows, though it's worth noting suddenly the text isn't written in printed form anymore, but handwritten. This handwriting is simple and unassuming.

A memorable event is not always blessed. The Piper shot the bride and then turned his gun on everyone else in turn, causing chaos and discord the likes the town had never before seen. A manhunt ensued and in time, the Piper was captured and faced repudiation for his terrible crimes.

As a member of the ruling class he could not die but exile was a fitting punishment, and for some time there was peace. But the story must go on and so he returned to wreak havoc and misery once more. And this time the familie decided to-

[... uh. Well. That was unexpected? But not altogether unlike some of the other fairy tales he read in the archives here, he supposes...

[ There is one final part. This is written also in a different hand, an elegant one that borders on cursive. ]

It was too soon for the Piper to move on. Before his soul could move on he was found. Instead of being consumed he was given life again. He was given a purpose. His existence tethered by string, living on time given to him by his benefactor.

The Piper’s new purpose was familiar to him already. The traditional tale painted him as someone who led rats and children away. This time he’d lure new prey, bringing them to provide sustenance to his benefactor. It’d be a one-time task, not happening again, and once such a task was finished…

...his story would go on alongside his benefactor’s. There’s no rest for the Piper. There will never be.

[This... the very first part there hits a little close to home, but this isn't the time to be reflecting on that.

He'll keep on reading if there's more. If there's nothing else to be read, he'll go ahead and close it, making sure to keep the photo inside, and take it with him.]

[ That's as far as the book goes, though it's worth noting it looks like there's space on the page to write more. While the book was the only thing on the couch, the end table next to it has a singular drawer. ]

[Opening this drawer, then!

If bugs come out he swears to god]

[ A house centipede crawls out because we can't have nice things. It slithers off under the couch, utterly defeated by all the other bugs in this room. But it looks like there's a note in the drawer. ]

[OH HELL NO WHY THIS

He's gonna grab that note and then slam the drawer shut because fuck that, seriously.]

This note is written in what is ostensibly doctor's handwriting. Some things are the same across the multiuniverse. A small signature at the bottom looks to be signed "Robin Hood". ]

Immortality can be a curse, but it is a curse I can use to my benefit. I'll avenge you, my beloved.

TRIAL #223-B results promising, requires LIVE testing on subject.

Grind calabar bean into a coarse paste.
Procure the nectar and petals from yellow jassamine (Gelsemium sempervirens )
Mix together into a slurry, adding enough water only to form a paste.
Add 0.2 g ricin; excess risks separating the paste.
Completed mixture can be applied to any metal instrument without risk of losing toxicity.

[ That's it for the couch. If Marcus wants he can check out the plants by the windowsill though! ]

[ Looks like there's one potted plant and one plant growing out into the void. Which one does he want to look at first? ]

[You know what he's really not a big fan of voids so let's look at the potted plant first why do the mods have it out for the Rays cast]

[ Didn't you know the mod team also has a side hustle as the developer of Rays. The potted plant is pretty leafy with black beans growing from it's flowers. A little nametag (written in the same elegant and cursive hand that Marcus saw in the Pied Piper story) reads Castor. ]

[Don't mind if he just helps himself to a good handful of the beans/flowers/leaves, then! Sorry, plant, it's for a good cause. He hopes.

If there's nothing else of note with this plant, he'll turn his attention to... the void plant...]

[ At least the void plant is nice to look at it, with it's yellow flowers. Like the castor plant, it has a little nametag in the same elegant hand that reads jessamine. ]

[Well, given that he can read, he'll grab a sizable handful of those flowers too.

... and maybe also some leaves just to be on the safe side, does he look like a botanist here

[ You're done with the windowsill! Nice hustle. ]

[WHERE IS HE SUPPOSED TO PUT ALL OF THIS STUFF okay fine he'll just leave with a book and handfuls of plant bits he guesses]
