Final Chapter

Like the secrets that spilled out into the open, the night sky above Aira Niluc also seems to be running free; whatever part of the land you find yourself in at night, you'll find that the night sky has been painted with shooting stars. Watching them brings a certain comfort, the feeling of chicken soup on a cold winter day, the nostalgia of meeting an old friend again, a warm fuzzy feeling from your core.

A boost to your spirits is likely welcome at this point, and it seems be the only thing Aira Niluc has to offer you at this as no new locations open up to you this week. There's a certain energy in the air, but not all of that can be blamed on the shooting stars, given the explosion that happened this weekend. For now the chasm in what was once the fountain remains impassable, but who knows when that will change?

It's probably going to take me more than one game not to lose to you, though. So please don't expect too much right from the start?

[ Complete cultural disconnect, it strikes again! McGillis does not look put off by having an inexperienced partner at least - that's hard fought for Huaisang privileges. ]

I'm pretty good at this game, so I did not expect to be beaten anytime soon regardless of challenger.

Chess is a big classic though, I'll be glad to teach you.

...That sounds like the talk of someone who plays games like this in his sleep.

Though, I have to wonder. Does this mean you'll teach me your best strategies after the tutorial? It might make things rather fun~

[ Considering the burnt down ruins of the Gelateria are maybe not the greatest place for a friendly match, McGillis inclines his head towards the parlor and guides the two of them into walking over for a more comfortable atmosphere. ]

Normally I would jealously guard these secrets, but it is tempting to see how strong an opponent we can turn you into in so little time. I can imagine you being quite talented at this game.

[ A quirk of his eyebrow here, as if sharing an inside joke. ]

Oh McGillis, should I be surprised that you have so much faith in me? Or maybe I should say flattered...some people might feel disinclined to disagree, though. Hardly anyone has seen me playing any sort of strategy games, after all.

[ Huaisang bats his eyelashes at him, innocently, as if unknowing. Though the smile on his face is far too amused for him not to catch the jest. ]

[ Oh, the pure picture of innocence by his side... ]

Those people can call me a fool then as I invest my time into such a lost-seeming cause. I can withstand their judgement, I'd say.

[ And when they make it to the parlor, he'll pull out the chair for Huaisang like a true gentleman. If they're going to play at this for the rest of their time here, why not go all out now? ]

[ Truly, he is such a kind and innocent white lotus.

Anyway he is at least a touch amused when the blond pulls out a chair for him, but he will take the seat nonetheless. ]

Oh, I imagine you could. Though if they anyone would dare, I'd definitely take at least some offense, and would like to picture myself taping their mouths shut.

[ He waits for the other man to set the game down and sit down with him too. ]

Time to set up a chess board, though, and explain the pieces as he does so. ]

The goal of the game is quite simple - it's to topple the opponent's king, using the strength of the various other people at your disposal. The king on his own is fairly powerless, he can only move one field at a time... [ ... and just like that we're going through every single chess piece. ]

[ Oh my god, he's sure that'd be a mess...or well, taping rude peoples' mouth shut wouldn't be too bad. He'd love to be able to do that to Sect Leader Yao.

The world would be better off!! ]

I think I got everything? Actually...it sounds kind of a little similar to weiqi. Just a bit.

[ He'll look at the pieces. He'll probably wait a tad before it's clear it's time to start and begin to play. At least the pieces look a little more fun-shaped than the ones in the other game he's played. ]

It's truly unfair most things here are European in theme, it would be nice if you could show me some of your home's things as well.

[ He'd actually love to learn a board game from scratch and challenge himself by playing it seriously right after.

But for now, it's time for chess! ]

I won't go easy on you, that'll be the best learning experience.

You can say that again...you know, I almost got excited when that one area showed up, but besides the studio it was such a disappointment!

[ He's sure he'd have an actual good opponent in that too... ah well, if he focuses hard enough in this game he can give the other man a challenge.

Even if he knows very well it's highly unlikely for him to win his first game. ]

And it'd make me want to try harder to get a win from you. Though if you do get distracted and lose, I won't blame you~
