Like the secrets that spilled out into the open, the night sky above Aira Niluc also seems to be running free; whatever part of the land you find yourself in at night, you'll find that the night sky has been painted with shooting stars. Watching them brings a certain comfort, the feeling of chicken soup on a cold winter day, the nostalgia of meeting an old friend again, a warm fuzzy feeling from your core.

A boost to your spirits is likely welcome at this point, and it seems be the only thing Aira Niluc has to offer you at this as no new locations open up to you this week. There's a certain energy in the air, but not all of that can be blamed on the shooting stars, given the explosion that happened this weekend. For now the chasm in what was once the fountain remains impassable, but who knows when that will change?

It's unfortunate that my artes don't work here, because I wouldn't be opposed to doing this properly otherwise. Another time, perhaps.

[That said, he's got the sword out and he's more than ready for whatever comes next. Probably something that we're going to gloss over greatly because I'm bad at this sort of thing. Either way, come on, Marcus, let's go. Quality RP time.]

It's definitely a good challenge, though! Marcus is no slouch in combat, even with his own gun-related abilities taken away. Then again, since Alexei can't use his artes, that probably makes them even.

He's smiling by the time they're done, albeit somewhat out of breath too. But hey, that's how he prefers to end his sparring sessions.]

Now that's more like what I'm talking about! You definitely don't disappoint.

[God, he actually seems like he enjoyed himself. It's a Christmas miracle.]

I've fought Yeager a few times, and Raven as well when he was with us. But there's always something I can appreciate about new opponents.

[He nods, lowering his blade, his expression growing more serious as he does so.]

Yeah, I figured you and Yeager probably had. Yeager and I have sparred a couple of times, too.

I'll fess up, though: this wasn't just for fun.

[A beat.]

I figured that if there's a good chance we're all going to need to fight alongside each other at some point, we should all know each others' fighting styles.

I understand, and I have no argument with that line of thinking. I think it would be for the best to be at least passingly familiar with one another, and there's only so much we can gather from words.

I know that he's been trying rather hard to learn, but Tenn shouldn't fight unless it's absolutely necessary. Perhaps from a distance, but not close combat.

[He nods in agreement. Tenn has been trying his best, but... without any real combat experience, he'd just be more of a liability than anything else.]

Agreed there. I don't want him getting involved unless it's absolutely necessary. Now the only question is whether or not he's going to agree with that...

...He should stay near one of us, at least, if he insists. I'm not opposed to keeping an eye on him personally if needs be.

Same here, and I'm guessing the same goes for Yeager.

[He sighs.]

He'd be covered, at least, but that doesn't get rid of the risk of him hurting himself in the process.

That's a risk that we can't really protect him from. In the end, as much as I dislike the idea, he has as much right to fight as the rest of us.

[mirrite]

Yeah. Yeah, I know.

[Doesn't mean he has to like it, though.]

But we have to be prepared that this might get ugly.

I don't disagree. But there's only so much we can plan for regarding an enemy we know so little about. Hopefully those among our number won't be rash; that's the most we can ask right now.

After the past few weeks? That might be too much to ask.

[He's not even being sarcastic here.]

...I want Hamelin to receive what he deserves as much as the next person, and I'm certainly of the opinion that he needs to die as soon as he's no longer useful to us. I just believe that we unfortunately can't open with that.

[HE SURE WANTS TO, BUT.]

I also believe that Makoto is trying rather hard, but he's being exceedingly optimistic in thinking we can properly plan for anything at the moment.

I'd say he needs to die, but...

[... well. He's not sure it's really his place to finish that sentence there. He certainly would not shed a single tear over Hamelin's untimely demise himself, however.]

Anyway, at the moment we still don't even really know exactly what we're up against, aside from the fact that it lives in the mirrors. And that's not really much of a starting point there.

[Does it even have a physical form?]

[Eh, it's not Alexei's place either, but he'll say it loudly enough for everybody anyway.]

It isn't. I also admit freely that I've never gone up against something quite like this before.

Do you ever just miss normal, tangible threats?

[mirrite]

You mean like monsters and Imperial soldiers? Never thought I'd see the day where I missed fighting those, but yeah. At least you know what to expect with them.

And it feels pretty satisfying to beat 'em up, too.

I'll disregard the comment about the soldiers, at least, but I've never agreed with the rest more in my life.

Fair enough. I was wondering whether or not it was just because of what I am, but given that you and Yeager both feel the same way too, I think I can pretty safely rule that one out.
