The dead now outnumber the living.

There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.

But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.

The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?

But Alexei was freaked out when I described a combustion engine to him
So maybe it sounds worse than it is

What exactly is it used for?

Transportation, usually
It powers cars, ships, planes (air travel)
You basically only ride horses for leisure or sport now because engine-powered vehicles are so much faster

Well, if they're powered by explosions I imagine they would be! That sounds delightful. [delightfully dangerous!!!!!] You can even travel by air?

Fascinating... If only we had travel that quick! If I could avoid another boat ride back to Nordopolica, I'd take it.

It takes forever to get where you want to go, and I dislike being stuck anywhere dealing with the same surroundings for so long...

[The only reason why he's handling this well(?) is because we have access to vastly different areas!!]

I have some bad news about planes
For a lot of the trip you're just going to be looking at clouds

But it is shorter, ja? The less time you have to spend traveling, the better, even if it is boring on the way there!

You can get halfway around the world in a day
And it's probably easier to sleep on a plane

Incredible... I can certainly understand why we haven't tried to create such a thing with blastia, [because they explode a lot and not in a controlled way!!!] but it does sound quite fascinating!

I told Alexei he should look into burning oil when he gets home
...But I guess he's not going to be in a position to do much of anything

From what little we've discussed, I understand that the Commandant is in a... difficult position right now.

He says it's something he's earned

Is it wrong for me to hope he lives?

[He understands paying the price for the things you do. But he can't just accept a friend's death, earned or not.]

I don't think it is. You want the best for your friends no matter what, after all. So I think that's understandable.
