CHAPTER 6

CHAPTER 6

The dead now outnumber the living.

There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.

But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.

The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?

[[Welcome to Week 6! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. However, please try to keep investigations to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure.

In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for this week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST; this is the last week for murder proposals as week 7 is endgame. Also, please note the shop's discount on magnifying glasses! ]]

I agree. As we've heard in the last weeks, many of our number were forcibly and against their will dragged into the mirrors.

They have given us no reason to think the mirrors are in any way trustworthy and they themselves admit that they're still fallible individuals. I do not think there was ill intent, but I think they might have been mislead.

[personal profile] sempiternel 2021-07-07 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to mention, the execution room is entirely made of mirrors. If that was not done purposefully and with ill-intent, then...

It was in front of our eyes all along, but we were understandably swayed by hope and kind words.
vogelfrei: (serious; sad; make you happy)

[personal profile] vogelfrei 2021-07-07 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
If there is somebody out there manipulating the dead, like it is suspected there is somebody manipulating the living...

It would be our weak spot. Many of us have loved ones among those who already passed. The desire to honor their memory could work against us.
crimson_flamel: (its tea time)

[personal profile] crimson_flamel 2021-07-07 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
...I do want to point out, that we have jumped to this conclusion rather quickly. We can't dismiss them out of hand, annoying and condescending as they are.
vogelfrei: (serious; reflecting on agnika)

[personal profile] vogelfrei 2021-07-07 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I would not call it a conclusion so much as a possibility, as of now.
sempiternel: (084)

[personal profile] sempiternel 2021-07-07 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Nodnod!! ]

Oh, I do agree. Their source has not been completely wrong, I think. But we do have to keep in mind how much they have gotten wrong so far.
biyishuangfei: (β™ͺ Help me help me)

[personal profile] biyishuangfei 2021-07-07 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ At sommme point, kind of just. Quietly: ]

...I really think that's a stretch in this case.

Even if the dead could have handled things better.
vogelfrei: (serious; the hair thing)

[personal profile] vogelfrei 2021-07-07 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair to them, we all could have. Everybody was ill-prepared for this game and it's evident in all the mistakes we've made along the way.

But what makes you think that my suggestion is unlikely? We don't know who or what their source on the other side even is.
biyishuangfei: (β™ͺ 15)

[personal profile] biyishuangfei 2021-07-07 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
There are creatures and things in play that we know aren't on our side so it might be easy for people to take that at face value as a viable option and ignore what they say if they think that's involved.

But the fact remains that they're right we have traitors among us. That was confirmed but they also mentioned it in the letters. If their source knew to inform them of that, when they could have been kept in the dark since they're dead, then it makes it far less likely they're being led astray.

With us even to receive communication like this in the first place, I don't know if we should be assuming where their source even is.

vogelfrei: (serious; lost in thought)

[personal profile] vogelfrei 2021-07-07 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I see your point, yes.

[ He sighs, softly. ]

It's just hard to take their information at face value when it's been so incredibly inconsistent, both with itself and with what we ourselves experienced.
biyishuangfei: (β™ͺ Every minute)

[personal profile] biyishuangfei 2021-07-08 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
It really is...I won't forget when they were wrong in being so aggressive towards Moriarty.

That's part of why I don't blame people for doubting everything they've said in the first place.

[personal profile] sempiternel 2021-07-08 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Let’s talk about the traitors for a bit then. What makes them traitors?
biqe: (invisible reasons)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-07-08 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
They were the ones who wanted to keep the game going... is how I believe they were described earlier on.
sempiternel: (026)

[personal profile] sempiternel 2021-07-08 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
But why would they?
biqe: (staying home can't be that bad for me)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-07-08 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. Maybe there's something for them to get out of it, be it some sort of power inherent to this world or simply enjoyment... or maybe they just don't want to go home.
crimson_flamel: (mind racing. thinkin abt teachers tits)

[personal profile] crimson_flamel 2021-07-08 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's the question, isn't it?

Personal loyalty to Hamelin, blackmail, special privileges, or perhaps they want to see us all dead for their entertainment. The traitor's presence can only lead us to blindly condemn, but it's likely that they may have their own reasons. Reasons that we, in turn, may have done the same with. What we have to do is find the truth and then come up with a plan of how to handle it based on how dangerous they are, and whether or not they can be turned to our side.

[personal profile] biyishuangfei 2021-07-08 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Blackmail or being convinced there is a mutual goal that they can stand to gain from, when really that isn't the case...
