CHAPTER 6
CHAPTER 6
The dead now outnumber the living.
There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.
But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.
The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?

Are we all supposed to walk around openly displaying our dark past, or secret desires, or personal traumas?

It may not even be the past, but simple things, like an understanding of poisons and antidotes...
[There's something a little wry in his smile then.]

[ He sounds a bit annoyed. ]
In the end this is a little frustrating to think about.
[ That's underselling it. Anyway he's going to take a quick walk and then come back. ]

Once he's away from the group he's not able to hide how upset he looks. ]
Sorry...I'm probably taking away from time better spent at the meeting.
[ He's absolutely heading to the bakery to get some cookies. He's trying not to sound angry but it's clear he sounds distressed. He was able to handle dealing with treacherous people for years, but this is still a sore spot. He kind of hates it. ]
no subject
[He can understand that much, at least. That Huaisang needs to be away from everyone else for a little while, because the topic of traitors is a very difficult one.]
A little break will do some good, I'm sure! They'll likely be working on those puzzles for a little while...
[And since Yeager's really uncomfortable with the idea of letters from the dead, this works out great for him too!!]
If you'd like to talk about it, I'll listen. But we can talk about other things, if you'd prefer!
ig some more mdzs spoilers bc you never know!!
[ At least he feels less ashamed about all of that. Ugh he could've definitely handled that better, though.
Once they reached the bakery, he will take the cookies. He feels like he says he shouldn't talk about it, so hesitates, but what surprises him more is that he wants to. So he does. ]
I told you about what happened with my brother, didn't I? The person involved was someone I trusted and supposed to be his sworn brother, Jin Guangyao. He did it for the sake of more power and to earn his father's favor. And from then on he smiled at me like there was nothing wrong.
It's also partly because of him Wei-xiong suffered the way he did.
[ The idea someone here might do the same to him? It's agitating. Well he always knew deep down most people were scum and untrustworthy so it's no surprise. It's the fact he has to deal with that again which makes him furious. ]
more mdzs spoilers probably!!
[It isn't exactly the same, certainly, but that won't stop the associations. There's likely at least one person doing exactly that, if not more.]
I'm sorry, truly. I can only imagine how difficult it was the first time.
[Hopefully Jin Guangyao got what was coming to him, though he has a hard time imagining anyone else taking that betrayal well either.]
What happened to Wei-xiong?
[...his pronunciation is sort of passable, but that's mostly because he's trying very hard!!]
no subject
He really wished that wasn't the case, though. Regardless, he does appreciate the expression of words just fine.
...Anyway Jin Guangyao certainly got into the shit for all of that and he will take solace in such things as well. ]
He was vilified and branded as an enemy of the cultivation world, when he really never did anything wrong.
No one listened to anything he said.
[ Things kind of got better when he came back? But there's still the reputation. ]
This isn't really the first time he's met an end. Though he did get another chance, it's a little complicated to explain and it feels like it doesn't matter right now.
no subject
I can certainly see where that would be extremely difficult... and incredibly frustrating! I hope things eventually got a bit better for him.
[But rumors have a nasty tendency to stick, especially when they're given as fact for a long time.]
no subject
[ There's a small pause. ]
Um...thanks by the way. For coming with me to check in.
I was a little at a loss. Usually I'm better at keeping calm.
[ Putting it nicely about feeling like he was seeing red but it's fine ( not really but as fine it will get for now.) He has cookies and Yeager's company. ]
no subject
[It might take a little while, but that's perfectly fine with him.]
A situation like this is quite upsetting, ja? It's understandable that you needed some space from it.
[Don't worry, we can sit here and eat cookies until you're ready to head back, Yeager's certainly in no rush!!]
no subject
[ ...but, good because he's about to take like ten or fifteen minutes instead of those five now...
At some point he does manage to feel like coming back, however, and even though he's thanked Yeager, he's shooting him another look of gratitude as he eventually does move to head back. He won't forget this even if it seems like such a small thing; it does mean a lot. ]
