CHAPTER 6
CHAPTER 6
The dead now outnumber the living.
There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.
But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.
The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?
[[Welcome to Week 6! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. However, please try to keep investigations to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure.
In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for this week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST; this is the last week for murder proposals as week 7 is endgame. Also, please note the shop's discount on magnifying glasses! ]]

It's faint, but the longer she listens the clearer it becomes, the notes tickling at memories from her childhood. The melody has a warmth to it of its own, but gradually it shifts to actual heat which extends from her fingertips up into the entire portion of her arm that she's reached into the crevice with.
This is clearly an invitation of some sort, but is it one she really wants to take? ]

Hellooo? Wh...
[ Now her arm's warm, and she almost yanks it out all the way in case she would get burned from the heat. That doesn't seem to be the case! She takes a deep breath and takes the invitation, she's this far! ]
Is someone down there?

[There's suddenly literally a hand at the back of her collar, hanging on tight -- we're assuming that both of them don't need to be in the fountain for this, Jack's arm is presumably long enough, but yes... He is literally scruffing this bunchild even if he has to actually climb into the fountain himself.]
That doesn't look like someplace you should go on your own. Perhaps we should send something else down, first?
[If needed, Jack will do his best to also pull her back in case whatever's in there tries to suck her in. Also? He's holding a baked good (specifically a croissant). If they really need to yeet something down the fountainslide.]

[ She is scruffed and unable to mostly counter his reasoning that this is not smart! But she will flail a little. ]
Are you gonna feed whatever is under the fountain that?
[ Eyes that croissant. Toss it! ]
no subject
[The Koto has been scruffed but the fountain seems as menacing as ever...
What can they do about this... Jack shakes his head and moves them both a little further away from the bizarre opening. And then. He tosses the whole-ass croissant in there.
What do they get for their trouble! Munching noises? More lullabies? Scary silence??]
no subject
...
...nope. Looks like there's nothing.
That was a perfectly good croissant, how could you do that]

[ attempts to wiggle free. ]

All the more reason not to give it to them, then; we certainly don't have that many people to spare. I think we must speak with the others and see what else we can do with this strange opening. For the moment...
[He is totally going to take an entire notepad out of his pocket and one-handedly write:
DANGEROUS OPENING: DO NOT TOUCH
And then slap it on the fountain rim. This is fine.]

I hate bureaucracy.

I'm afraid it's part of my job, so you'll have to put up with it.
