The dead now outnumber the living.

There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.

But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.

The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?

[Alright, then the next thing to do is to turn Phil over to check out his front side.]

[ He's pretty well covered by his clothes, but there are the beginnings of some fresh bruises on his jaw and collarbone that are visible. There is a very small amount of blood at the corner of his mouth. ]

[...This is the part where he has to get his clothes off to examine thoroughly, right? This feels disrespectful, but it's to avenge Phillip, so he guesses he can at least try to get his top off...?]

[biqe]

[ Okay, investigation over. Phil had slowly started regaining consciousness when he was moved before, but it's when his clothes are about to start coming off that he snaps back to something bordering on alertness and opens his eyes. ]

Gla— huh?

[ He blinks, realizing it's Suga, and looks around. ]

Oh.

[As soon as Phil starts moving, Suga jolts backwards, falling on his butt and scooting to the opposite side of the stairway.]

You're not dead????

[biqe]

[ Oh no— well, between his currently impaired coordination and general lack of athletic ability, there was no chance of catching him before he fell. Sorry, Suga. ]

No, I—

[ Ouch, he bit his tongue pretty hard. He runs his thumb over his lip to wipe off any blood. ]

No, I just... sort of passed out.

[it's okay suga deserves it for being a weirdo who strips somebody unconscious]

[Sure it's a tall stairway, but you'd think you'd stop and sit down before passing out on it...?]

No, no, nothing like that. I'm just a little accident-prone, you know.

Oh, I'm still planning to finish going to the top. I'm already halfway there, after all, and now I'm... er, freshly rested.

[Gotta make sure Phil doesn't hurt himself again...]

Ah... [ A slight pause, but he nods. ] All right, if you'd like.

[Nod! Up they go, then - slowly so as not to tire Phil out.]

How are you doing

Probably not much worse than anyone else.

[ Collapsing on the stairs probably implies otherwise, but, you know. ]

How about you?

I'm OK
Mostly worried about other people right now
Last trial was hard

Yes... it was. I'm still not really sure how I feel about it.

I never come out of one of these feeling happy
But I think if we had executed Alexei I'd feel worse

My reasoning at the time was based more on how Raven would feel, since Alexei seemed to be fully accepting of the idea himself. ...I don't know if that was the right way of looking at it either, though.

I thought
That if our positions were reversed
And I were trying to sacrifice myself for someone else
Alexei wouldn't let me

And I thought that if Marcus and I were in their positions, I wouldn't want him taking the fall for something I did, so surely Raven wouldn't want that either.

...But we're all different people. Being in the same position as someone doesn't mean your feelings are the same as theirs, and it doesn't mean the nuances of your situation are the same.
