CHAPTER 6
CHAPTER 6
The dead now outnumber the living.
There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.
But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.
The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?
[[Welcome to Week 6! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. However, please try to keep investigations to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure.
In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for this week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST; this is the last week for murder proposals as week 7 is endgame. Also, please note the shop's discount on magnifying glasses! ]]

[ Yikes... that certainly puts a damper on the Christmas cheer over there. Though he supposes it was never really all that cheery, that was probably just everyone projecting their own feelings about familiar holidays... ]
There's more to the story than that, I assume? There's usually some kind of fantastical element to these...

The little girl sells matches to support her family. She is afraid of returning home without having made any profit, so she remains outside in the freezing cold with her wares. In order to warm herself at least a little, she begins lighting the matches one by one.
As she is freezing, she sees comforting visions within the flames. Warm images of a happier world. It's implied that once she dies after having burned all the matches she was meant to sell, she at least goes to Heaven but I find that a shallow comfort.

[ He's certainly not going to be able to look at those will-o-wisps the same way again... ]
Well, that... does sound like it fits, you're right.
[ ... ]
That really is a miserable story, though.

[ He's sought out The Little Match Girl in the library to reread it after the area popped up and yeah, he still kind of hates it. ]
What a grotesque way of prettifying such a desolate state of affairs.

[ That's at least one thing that he doesn't think was ever too much of a problem in his own world... though he could see the Empire potentially pitching a similar angle now to make it sound like all the sacrifices for Nibelung's restoration would be worth it. ]
...A-anyway, if we assume that emblem represents a collection of fairy tales of which Hamelin's story is only one part, does that mean that he's likewise only one part of some larger collective that's behind what's happening here?

I would not be surprised if so. He does appear beholden to a lot of rules himself and I doubt his fairytale is the only one that would spark a personification like himself.
