CHAPTER 6

CHAPTER 6

The dead now outnumber the living.

There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.

But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.

The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?

[[Welcome to Week 6! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. However, please try to keep investigations to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday! You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure.

...I see...

[ ... ]

Was...part of why you wanted him to live for the sake of keeping him safe, too?
ideismo: (22. Of what you've suffered)

[He's quiet for a moment at that.]

Yes.

[ That's what he was hoping to hear, honestly. ]

...

I'm not going to apologize for what happened, because it's done. I can't take any of it back, so an apology would be meaningless. But...I did get to talk to Raven in the dungeon the next day. I felt like I owed him that much.

He actually thought I didn't want anything to do with him anymore.

Of course he did. He expected me to punish him for what happened, when I went down there.

None of this is new to me, nor is it unexpected. Make your point.

I can't say I truly understand why he thought that, or why you and Yeager-san feel the way you do in regards to my involvement in the trial. I am grateful, but... Someone else will probably die, and I'll most likely be handling that case in the same way.

[ Assuming that he isn't the one to fall this time around, anyway. ]

This is just what I think. Even if you feel like you could have done a better job at persuading people to vote for you, someone put it to me like this after the trial -- we aren't responsible for the choices other people make.
ideismo: (29. I'm in a mood for total war)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You approached Yeager in the same way, then - are you honestly that self-centered?

[He isn't yelling, but it's sharp. Harsh.]

You approach us, while we're actively grieving, just to verify...what? That we don't hate you? To give us some arrogant assertion that you aren't sorry for what happened, that you don't care what we have to say because you're going to do this again at the next trial? Why do you think we care?

You honestly can't accept that our grief and our handling of what happened here has nothing to do with you, can you?
incompletely: (tenn63)

[personal profile] incompletely 2021-07-05 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see why you think that, but that isn't what I meant.

[ He actually hadn't approached Yeager in the same way, but he's not going to bring that up. ]

I am sorry about what happened, but saying so won't bring Raven-san back or change what happened. That's what I meant. Furthermore, I'm saying that you aren't responsible for the vote, because people will ultimately vote however they think is correct.

[ He's just going to leave it at that. ]
ideismo: (26. Doubting angels fall)

[personal profile] ideismo 2021-07-05 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet none of that is what you actually said to me.

[Like, maybe be careful with the whole "I'm not going to say I'm sorry because that's meaningless" to someone who's actively grieving?]

Either way, I'm disinterested in having people trying to decide that they know how I should feel about all of this. The fact of the matter is that I should be dead, and yet I'm not. It isn't the first time that's happened to me. I hope for my own sake it's the last, but I don't have a guarantee of that.
