The dead now outnumber the living.

There's only one area that stayed a mystery until now. A new path revealed itself, leading to another town, surrounded by sturdy stone walls. Even from some distance away you can see the tower, rising high towards the skies. The path that leads to the city turns into gold before long, and the sky itself seems to take a beautiful tone, like it's painted with watercolors. It's such a peaceful-looking town, welcoming you with open gates. It must be nice to have another urban setting, after living in the same place for so long.

But no matter what you find it doesn't change the situation you're in. Now that your numbers are dwindling that's impossible to forget.

The story is nearing its end. There still are a handful of pages left. What will they bring?

...Yeager-san. If, say, someone told you not everything was as it seems here... How would you interpret that? What, do you think, something like that would be referring to?

It could refer to quite a few different things, I think. We know very little about this world right now and exactly how much control Hamelin has over it. I do think that not everything is as it seems, certainly... but a statement like that is a bit vague. It could refer to anything.

Now that's interesting. I would have written that off as trying to confuse us weeks ago, but now...? I think there may be more to it. It could be a threat... but it could also be a warning. We've speculated that Hamelin might be working for someone else in the past, so perhaps there's more to that idea.

[Of course, it is just speculation. There's no real way to know for certain right now.]

He also told me to be careful with who I listen to.

Really? Do you think it's possible we've been mistaken, and someone is working for Hamelin's superior, or whoever is actually in control of all of this?

[Maybe we were never looking for people working for Hamelin at all...]

It's possible, but Hamelin himself implied that people were actually working for him.

Unless he said that to throw me off, but he was pretty hungover that day.

He was drinking? When was this, and what happened, exactly?

Oh, interesting... I suppose he did take some damage there, so perhaps he was trying to relax after all of that. Still, that is curious. Did he say anything else?

Yeah. Things like he considers himself the villain of this story, he doesn't care what we call ourselves. Which is weird, given how fixated he is on us playing our roles.

[ It's extremely bizarre to him that Hamelin would say something like that... ]

In terms of the executioner role, he just said when you get picked for it, you can't get out of it, that's how it is. No other reason than that.

If there is someone else behind the scenes, maybe they're forcing him to play that role. It could explain why he's not all that invested in the things that don't entertain him.

[And maybe even his focus on being entertained in the first place. He has to get something out of this, after all.]

But we don't have any proof of that. It's possible that he meant something else entirely by it. Raven speculated that this was some sort of ritual - which could also explain the focus on the roles we need to play in order for everything to go exactly as Hamelin wants.

That would make sense.

[ Like, all of it, he means. Hmm. ]

My other thought was...he was advising me to be careful about who I talked to, because...

[ ...traitor things. Yeah. ]

But I see what you're saying, too. I think it's a good theory that we should keep in mind. This game is going to end soon, after all.

I doubt he'd intentionally warn you about traitors working for him... but maybe he would find that entertaining.

[He's similar enough to Yeager where he can make some educated guesses... but also different enough where making assumptions will only hurt them in the end.]

You sound sure of that. I wonder how it will end...

That's true. He said I wasn't anywhere near being at the top of his favorites list, and that doesn't surprise me. He'd rather see me die than warn me, if I had to guess.

[ Which doesn't seem to really bother him. He hates Hamelin, so if it goes both ways? Good. ]

Who knows, though. That man's cagey about everything.

[ Tenn you are talking to one of the cagiest people in the group right now -- ]

I'm just guessing, of course, but it seems like it's coming to an end soon. There aren't many of us left.

Ja, that's certainly true. We can't keep going like this for much longer, so we'll have to put an end to it at some point.

[Though how exactly they'll do that is definitely up in the air...]

I suppose we'll have to see what more we can get from him. Maybe he'll be a bit more willing to talk now that we've made it this far in. I wouldn't have expected him to divulge even that much earlier, so it seems it could be worth it.

[Not that he wants to talk to Hamelin after the bullshit he pulled on Raven...]

I'd offer to try and fish for information for you, but I think I'm one of the last people he'll disclose anything to.

[ SIGH!! He wishes he had some leverage here, but alas... ]

I can try, though, if you're not willing to speak with him.

I may see about visiting him later, if I can manage that.

[He doesn't trust himself not to throw down the second Hamelin says something wrong, and he knows that's a bad idea. Will it stop him in the moment? Ehhhhhh.]

I don't think it'd hurt to have as many people try to talk with him as possible. You never know when someone will stumble on something useful.
