The clink of glasses, the clatter of utensils upon plates and the soft murmur of conversation flows smoothly in the warmly lit dining hall. It's a dinner party, a rather vivacious one at that, with the food flowing freely. Savory and sweet, regional specialties, refined and rustic, there's something for everyone. Omurice, chiffon cake, kimchi, sizzling porterhouse steaks—it might be more apt to call it a buffet than anything else.

Do buffets usually serve such a unique smorgasbord of food? And actually, weren't you doing something else? A free meal is usually a good thing but is anything truly free? Who are these people around you? And where exactly are you?

Whatever thoughts are racing through your mind, they're abruptly cut off by a note, high pitched G-sharp from a woodwind. All your senses return to you, though they won't tell you much. Maybe not all of them actually, if you're used to feats of heroic strength or manipulating reality or numerous other abilities. There is one clue at least, a heavy weighted paper beneath your plate, an embossed note rather than a list of courses.

"Enjoy yourselves. I'll come see you when you've had your fill. And don't try to dine and dash, huh? There's something I have—something I can do for you, after all. Besides, you've already agreed to the terms anyway!"

Indeed! There are some rather exotic dishes I've never seen before! But, my lady, there is plenty of space at the table. Why are you sitting on the floor?

[ Koto tilts her head... and takes another bit of her roast beef. ]

It's comfy I guess! I like eating at a much lower table.

It seems a little lonely to sit by yourself though. May I keep you company for a little while?

[kowashi]

Of course! And you can try whatever you want, there's plenty to go round.

[sempiternel]

[ Eating while sitting on the floor... Well, if Yuri pretends like this is a picnic or maybe a camping trip...

She carefully smooths layers and layers of skirts under her as she takes a seat. ]

I thank you for the kindness. May I ask your name?

[kowashi]

Koto!

[ just that. Seeing her smooth her skirt reminds her of yase and all her petticoats... Don't mind her she'll scoot the messy dishes a bit of a safer distance from her dress. ]

What kind of food do you like?

[sempiternel]

Hehe, thank you again, Lady Koto. My name is Yuri Elizabeth.

[ My, so sweet! ]

I like a little bit of everything. [ Yuri really means a little. She's not keen on finding out what will happen if she indulges too much. ] Tea especially, with friends. Coffee biscuits are nice. Have you had them before?

[kowashi]

It's nice to meet you Miss Elizabeth!

[ Elizabeth meanwhile is very polite ]

Coffee biscuits... I think I've had them at Yase's tea party? She dresses like you!

[ is there a tray of said biscuits here? Time to search her floor arrangement of food. ]

Hehe... Even I think this is a lot, but this is just the way we must dress. Is Lady Yase a friend?

[ She sees a tray of cookies that could be coffee biscuits or plain chocolate chip and nudges it toward Koto. ]

[kowashi]

[ She'll split the pile of cookies on the plate into 2 piles! ]

Yeah! She's usually really nice and has lots of neat things at her mansion. She takes in all these monsters and they're pretty fun.

[ As a demon princess would. ]

[ Why, thank you! ]

Um. "Usually"?

[kowashi]

Sometimes she gets mad and scary!

[sempiternel]

[ Oh, hehe. ]

I suppose one would have to be a very formidable lady to tame all those monsters you mentioned.

[kowashi]

Mm-hm! She has to wear that heavy dress too.

[ It's a lot of layers of dress! ]

[sempiternel]

Has to? Ah, because society demands it?

[ Something sliiiightly bitter about her words. ]

[kowashi]

Maybe? She's part of the council of three, so they all dress appropriately for their job! But her taste is more western than her brothers.

[sempiternel]

A part of the council - so she has power! Wah, that's incredible. It's rare for a woman to have equal power to men where I'm from...

[kowashi]

That's awful. Girls can be as strong as guys!

[ Says the tomboy who beats up her male classmates ]

[sempiternel]

Rightly so! But we're always treated as if we need protection.

[ And if not that, then they're treated like objects... ]
