CHAPTER 4

The story continues onward. In the span of another week, another four people perished. Your numbers have been diminishing more and more, making the world a little more empty.

At least the rumored giant peach that had been seen for a while is finally unveiled, in the middle of a lake surrounded by smaller yet still ridiculously large fruits. The landscape is idyllic and nonsensical, in par with the drunken escapades of last week. Given the everything that was this past weekend, why not sail on one of the magically operated rowboats and explore what this new area has to offer? You could even take a bite out one of the abundant normal-sized peaches floating around, if you're so inclined.

[ Morgan was mostly coming to say hi, but predictably the familiar racing suit catches her attention, and she tilts the helmet back. There's a flash of something across Morgan's face, but it's gone as she looks up at Suga ]

You got all this from the store?

[ The meat suit is kind of weird, but. She's just going to pretend like that's not there. ]

[Someone please take the suit please god.]

Yes I was hoping to get one of my charms or my own sword But so far I haven't gotten anything of my own

I doubt anything that comes out of there will retain any of its abilities, if you do find them. I don't think Hamelin would allow variables like that.

I know they wouldn't But it would feel reassuring to have them Even if they don't do anything

[ She tilts her head slightly. ]

What kind of charms are they, normally?

Protective charms that ward off violent spirits I make them myself

[ She nods. ]

If I see anything like that, I'll be sure to let you know. Perhaps it might be good to make some in the meantime?

There's no night glowstone in the gem hoard I've checked multiple times But I've made similar things with the gems they do have

Glowstone?

[ Her hand drops from the helmet, turning more to face him. ]

I'm unfamiliar with the term. Is it a catalyst?

It's a gem that's mined near my village That has special properties Malicious spirits don't like getting near it I think it smells bad to them?

Interesting. I've never heard of that before. I know that lesser demons are general adverse to good luck charms or anything of a holy nature, but I didn't realize that sort of thing was possible.

[ Especially the smelling part????? ]

To be honest, I don't really know The Kotori Obake said something like that when I met her That my body had a smell that was repulsive to her That's why she only took my voice

[ She nods. ]

Was this recent, that she took it?

I'm sorry. Is there no way to recover it?

[ In her experience, those sorts of things aren't really gone so much as sealed, so... if there's some kind of trigger... ]

It was in exchange for her not killing my friend right away So if it ever came back I would be very worried

[It's definitely bothersome, but compared to Shiori's life it's nothing.]

... So to keep her safe, you had to permanently separate yourself and never see her again.

[ She pauses again, a little pointedly, and nods. ]

It is hard to say anything positive, given all that's happened here, but... I am glad that you were at least given the opportunity to make them, at least.

Me too I don't like that it's here and they're in danger, but I am glad that I met the people here Including you

[He'd consider Morgan a friend, at least a little.]

[ She nods, her gaze moving back from the note to the racing suit. ]

You're very kind, Suga. I am glad that I have been able to meet you, and the others, as well.

[He follows her gaze.]

... in the context of the purpose of the items that come out of the shops, yes. I borrowed it from a motor club while I was doing a test run of riding sidecar on a racing motorcycle. [ She pauses. ] I was passing as a human, at the time.

That sounds fun Do you like racing ?

I suppose. It's nothing I really ever did, before. It was just something I needed to do as a way to get closer to the driver. [ pauses ] The person who was supposed to ride with him lost her memory, so she wasn't going to be able to ride for the upcoming race, so I offered to take her place instead.
