[There are no more verbal rejoinders from Jack, who has presumably moved his attention for now to his original mission -- as overly idealistic as it may seem under these conditions, he nevertheless moves with purpose -- but Norton does get a nod for his trouble, serious and sedate before Jack too turns away.

Unfortunately, they're all still finding their feet in this place, and it's truly debatable whether solid ground is anywhere to be found at all.
