Epilogue

After all is said and done, in the wake of the void and sprinting through one final door.

You come out into light. Sunlight actually, a backyard in what appears to be a typical suburban town, if you're familiar with those. The sun shines cheerfully overheard, blissfully unaware of what everyone has went through. And this is everyone, as faces you haven't seen in weeks tumble out in one pile from a basement door.

Happy Saturday, everyone.

There's plenty of reunions and catching up to do, but you've utterly left Aira Niluc behind you after seven long weeks. And through the window of the house which looks like it has seen a better seen better days is one wall mural that reads "And they all lived Happily Ever After".

It is quite fascinating, but your artes work far better. Admittedly, I don't think any of us even thought about the possibility of regaining our abilities!

I was hoping it would be a possibility eventually. Having them returned then and there was a surprise that was at least moderately pleasant, even if they weren't at full power.

It is nice to have them back, though. I certainly did miss my artes!

I suppose I'm glad Tenn got to see them, at least. He mentioned an interest in it.

I'm not surprised he did! He certainly did take quite an interest in fighting despite being from a world with no need for it.

[Though maybe that's understandable given the whole murdergame thing...]

That doesn't surprise me, given the situation. Though I admit that I have difficulty imagining a world like that - one where fighting is largely unnecessary and seen as something to avoid.

[Like for god's sake, half the people in Terca Lumireis learn to fight just to leave the cities, and for a whole mess of them that's their whole way of saying hello.]

I suppose it must be peaceful, but I can't really see it being attainable. Or desirable, for that matter.

He offered me a place there, and I wasn't sure how to tell him that I'd be incredibly bored.

[Tenn at least seemed aware of that when he gave the offer, but it was nice of him just the same.]

Monsters are certainly annoying and I can see where a world without them would be quite wonderful for some people... but for those of us who do fight, it would really be difficult to adapt, I think.

...I'm actually not sure I could picture you staying anywhere else for an extended period of time.

I don't blame you! Everything I want is back in Terca Lumireis; I wouldn't dream of leaving.

[It's mostly because of Gauche and Droite, but it helps that he's rich!!!]

As many flaws as the Empire may have, I admit that I've missed it; I'll likely hate it again once the week is out, but I can handle that then.

I suppose being away from it this long did some good.
