Epilogue

After all is said and done, in the wake of the void and sprinting through one final door.

You come out into light. Sunlight actually, a backyard in what appears to be a typical suburban town, if you're familiar with those. The sun shines cheerfully overheard, blissfully unaware of what everyone has went through. And this is everyone, as faces you haven't seen in weeks tumble out in one pile from a basement door.

Happy Saturday, everyone.

There's plenty of reunions and catching up to do, but you've utterly left Aira Niluc behind you after seven long weeks. And through the window of the house which looks like it has seen a better seen better days is one wall mural that reads "And they all lived Happily Ever After".

How much were you able to see? We were never quite clear on that.

Every trial, though I only saw the one for Suga and Jack. Earlier this week we had found an area where rifts had opened up to where we could see various glimpses of you all, but not really being able to hear. We were... preoccupied for a bit [ understatement of the fucking century ], so we were only able to see your final fight just now.

[ideismo]

...I see.

[He's quiet for a moment, once that's out there; when he speaks again it's as even in tone as ever, but...]

It wasn't supposed to be you.

[amortristis]

[ She hums, her eyes closing. ]

To both of your credits, there wasn't much of a choice in the matter. [ She told Raven as much when they first woke up (after she was done with her mild meltdown at least), and it's still true now. ] I'm not sure what Raven told you, after that.

[ideismo]

We didn't discuss it, bluntly put.

[There was... It was so much that was happening, Morgan.]

There's a long pause before she continues. ]

I was trying to make good on the offer, as well. I didn't know about the Professor being awake at the time, because otherwise I would have gone for him, instead, but... obviously that wasn't what came to pass.

[ She glances at him. ]

So there wasn't much of a choice, in who it was or wasn't supposed to be.

[Ah.]

I don't fault you for it. I'm likely the person with the least right to, and I don't believe in condemning anyone for what they did in there.

[amortristis]

So I've heard.

[ Some of the graveyard had some choice things to say about it. ]

I can't say I disagree, to a point. Everyone's wish was enough for them to agree to come here, so I cannot fault anyone for fighting for it. We all had our parts to play.

[ideismo]

We did.

[Yeah, he's aware that graveyard is displeased.]

I'm going to want to speak to you again sometime, if you're unopposed to that.

I wouldn't be. I would be remiss to say that I missed doing so, despite everything.

[ She tilts her head slightly. ]

Where are you going from here, then? Back to your world with Raven and Yeager?

Yes. I have duties to attend to that can't be ignored or disregarded easily. Both fortunately and unfortunately enough.

[It could be worse, but man, going back to all of that is going to suck.]

I would say I have no qualms about others coming to Terca Lumireis, but it's the sort of unstable that requires advance warning.

Unstable? How so?

[ is that where you and yeager got all the arson ideas from????? ]

The Guild Union and the Empire have nearly gone to war a few times, incredibly recently. It seems unbecoming to invite company at any time when we don't know precisely how high tensions will be.

I'm working on peace negotiations with the leader of the guilds out of Dahngrest. That seems a good start, and hopefully they won't dissolve this time.

[amortristis]

Ah. So it's more political instability. I see what you mean by it not being exactly the best for random people to suddenly appear. [ ... ] Though I would suspect if there was anyone to do something about it, it would be you.

[ For better or worse. The ends still justify the means, and all that. ]

I appreciate the confidence, if nothing else.

[The last time peace talks broke down it was at least partially his fault, given that he pulled Heracles out from right the hell out of nowhere; on the other hand, an Entelexeia showed up so like. What was he supposed to do about it.]

This is something we've been working towards for some time now, so hopefully all parties involved are receptive. I won't bore you with the details, but it's...more promising than it was, at any rate.
