Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1

And so, the confusion and turmoil of yesterday's events end as the sun sinks beneath the horizon, leaving the world silent as brilliant stars glimmer and twinkle in the night sky.

However, this only signals the beginning of a new chapter as the game starts in earnest. As the day begins anew, there are a couple of noticeable changes in the area for those who care to venture beyond their bedrooms. First off is the new additions to the second-floor loungeβ€”what was once bare wall is now adorned with large, grandiose paintings of... well, all of you. Much like an art museum, underneath each portrait is a small plate that features some information about the subject, although some of it may or may not include some not-so-innocuous tidbits about your fellow guests.

The second change, thankfully, is far less invasive. Butterfly-winged fairies now flit around out in the open, and while there aren't that many flying around, there's enough of them that they're not too hard to catch sight of as they go about their business. The storekeeper fairy has also made their appearance in the General Store, so guests are free to make all the special orders they want, provided they can afford it.

The weather is pleasant as the sun shines down on them from the blue skies, with only the occasional puffy cumulus cloud drifting about lazily. It's calm, but you know what they say about that and storms. So, how will you start this story?

[[Welcome to Week 1! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. The shop is now open for business, so you can start submitting threads for either items or regains. You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure!

In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for each week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST! However, you may also submit murder proposals for later weeks!]]

Nah, I didn't feel like testing my luck this soon out of the gate.

[He is, instead, examining the gunblade he ordered-- it's a good deal smaller than his usual one (although that's something of a necessity given that he probably wouldn't even be able to lift that one at the moment) and it doesn't have any ammo, but the blade is sharp and that's the only part that matters.]

For all we know, their idea of a "prize" might be a really ugly hat.
biqe: (all of the good that won't come out)

[ That gets a little laugh out of him. ]

It's pretty vague, but I think the implication is that things we owned in our worlds might be included in the pool... so I'd be curious to know who was responsible for the hat in that case.

[Totally deadpan:]

Have you looked at some of the people we're stuck here with?

[The grouchy parrot included.]
biqe: (this is no great illusion)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-04 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
I don't recall seeing a lot of hats.

[personal profile] mirrite 2021-06-04 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, you never know. Maybe that's because the shopkeeper has them all.

[He seems to be in a much better mood than the other day, at least... a large part of which can probably be attributed to the gunblade he's now carefully trying to attach to the plate on the back of his jacket.]

So, what'd you end up getting?

[Please tell him you didn't blow all of your crystals on something useless.]
biqe: (i'll try to make it right)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-04 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh— I got a pocketwatch and a potion. I want to test a few things with the effects of that clocktower, so having a timepiece I can carry with me should be helpful.

[ Also it kind of looks like Victor's chromatus watch and that's cool. ]

[personal profile] mirrite 2021-06-04 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
[... okay, there will be no complaints from Marcus, because those could actually come in handy.]

I got a couple of potions too, just in case.

[Well, he actually has a more specific reason behind them, but he's not going to say as much in public.]

What were you thinking of testing? Whether or not the time on the clock matches up with the watch?
biqe: (projected endlessly)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-04 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
It apparently has the ability to change the actual time of the surroundings within a specific radius when the time on the clock is adjusted, so I'm interested in seeing whether the time on the watch changes to match the clock, and what happens right at the border of the affected area. For instance, if I drop the watch right outside of the border and then look at the time while standing on the other side of the divide, does it display the same false time as the clock from my perspective, or would I still be able to see the true time?
mirrite: (18)

[personal profile] mirrite 2021-06-04 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
So in other words, you're saying that the time within that radius is subjective? Like a distortion of sorts?

[This is sounding like the Devil's Vortex all over again and he's not sure he likes it.]

I suppose that makes sense, although that raises the question of whether it's the time inside or outside of the radius that's the real one. Which part is the distortion, in other words. It may not be the time on the clock that's false.

[Given the entire nature of their own world, something like that is a distinct possibility.]
biqe: (how you choose to see it)

[personal profile] biqe 2021-06-04 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Something like that, though it can be controlled at will, and it sounds like the settings are very straightforward, so it should be relatively predictable.

[ Whereas who knows what was going on at the Vortex... ]

Hm... My assumption would be that the time outside of it would be the true time, since the time within changes with the adjustments to the clock and doesn't simply proceed forward at a steady pace like it should do outside. But that's not outside of the realm of possibility. If we have someone on each side of the border, and perhaps a third to go back and forth...
