Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1
And so, the confusion and turmoil of yesterday's events end as the sun sinks beneath the horizon, leaving the world silent as brilliant stars glimmer and twinkle in the night sky.
However, this only signals the beginning of a new chapter as the game starts in earnest. As the day begins anew, there are a couple of noticeable changes in the area for those who care to venture beyond their bedrooms. First off is the new additions to the second-floor loungeβwhat was once bare wall is now adorned with large, grandiose paintings of... well, all of you. Much like an art museum, underneath each portrait is a small plate that features some information about the subject, although some of it may or may not include some not-so-innocuous tidbits about your fellow guests.
The second change, thankfully, is far less invasive. Butterfly-winged fairies now flit around out in the open, and while there aren't that many flying around, there's enough of them that they're not too hard to catch sight of as they go about their business. The storekeeper fairy has also made their appearance in the General Store, so guests are free to make all the special orders they want, provided they can afford it.
The weather is pleasant as the sun shines down on them from the blue skies, with only the occasional puffy cumulus cloud drifting about lazily. It's calm, but you know what they say about that and storms. So, how will you start this story?
[[Welcome to Week 1! Feel free to make top levels at your discretion, and remember to note it in your header if you plan on investigating any locations. The shop is now open for business, so you can start submitting threads for either items or regains. You can also privately contact Hamelin at your leisure!
In addition, a reminder that any Murder Proposals for each week are due by Tuesday 3:00 PM EST/12:00 PM PST! However, you may also submit murder proposals for later weeks!]]

Oh ja, certainly! It'll be good to spend time together and get to know one another better!
[...]
And it'll also be easier to keep an eye on everyone, ja~?
[...thanks, yeager.]

A flicker of amusement danced across his eyes at that before it dissipated. ]
I can't believe you'd go around saying something like that! But, if someone wanted to check on people's whereabouts while everyone was partying, I guess nobody could stop them, hm?
no subject
[It's not entirely a joke, though. This is a good way to keep an eye on everyone - those who don't come or leave early certainly would be suspicious if someone turns up dead elsewhere, after all.]
It really does seem like the group you gathered to help you with this went all out!
no subject
[ It truly was.
Though Huaisang could already tell the reactions he'd have gotten from some of party planning crew if he said something like that. That being said it truly was the best move he could play right now. He would have to see what would happen next. Hopefully a murder foiled or the party would make it easier to narrow down suspects...while everyone had fun. (Almost) everyone wins (?)! ]
They did. I learned that a lot of people were in the mood to have one more big dosage of fun before the week ends. I mean, we even have singers with instrumental accompaniment! Would you have seen that coming?
no subject
I did notice such talents listed on those profiles, but honestly, I wasn't expecting them to be interested in putting on a show in these circumstances! Did you ask them to help with this?
[Was this your idea or did a bunch of you just rock up and go "hey you know what would be fun before someone inevitably murders one of us?"]
no subject
[ And if they were reluctant, Huaisang just whined at them and bothered them (probably Raven) until they decided to give it up and say yes. Look, no one could say he wasn't effective at getting what he wanted...okay it really wasn't like he smooth talked them or anything but. It worked and that's what mattered!! ]
I'm sure it also did help that deep down, this is something they really wanted.
no subject
People do tend to want to gather together, after all. I'm sure this party will be quite the rousing success!
[laugh track]
no subject
You know, it is good to hear someone have faith in my party abilities.
[ Huaisang looked momentarily unrepentantly proud of himself, putting his hands on his hips, and maybe sparkling, radiating self-confidence. Yeah they knew someone was going to die but at least it'll likely to not be half of them or something. Anyway, his gaze turned curious. ]
Say, did you go to a lot of parties back home, Yeager? You always seem like the kind of person who'd be great at them. Like, how you are now.
no subject
I've been to a few, ja, but the guilds throw a very different sort of party!
[there is so much alcohol, huaisang. so much.]
I'm pleased you're enjoying my presence here, then~
no subject
Oh, let me guess. It's more...tough? Actually, I'm not even sure what a guild is. Can you tell me?
[ He'll brighten up, nodding his head. ]
You're a guy who knows how to have fun, so that's definitely a lot of points in your favor.
no subject
[Other worlds are still so wild to think about...]
You're correct in that they are more... tough is a good description, I think! They're people who chose to leave the Empire and strike it out on their own - the guilds are a group of people who don't like living under others' rules and instead look out for their own. While the Guild Union does exist to provide some governance, for the most part everyone is free to live as they want. Each guild has its own leader and those who have joined the Union also follow those rules. They're rather charming people who are determined to take care of themselves! Of course, ultimately it is a group of very loud individuals who want to continue to be themselves at all times, so it isn't as though the guilds are perfect.
no subject
[ Just by that description.
People in Qinghe could be loud and eager to fight. On a consistent basis, in fact. The fact the Nie had awful tempers for certain reasons did not help. ]
How do guilds manage to flourish, doing their own thing without strict rules?
no subject
[Like he isn't?? But anyway!]
While we aren't a part of the Empire, many guilds still do business with the Empire. We cover a wide range of skills and services, and even when we do overlap there usually isn't too much competition. Many guilds are specialized - we've got a guild of blacksmiths, merchants, monster slayers, for some examples! - but there are also some who take on general mercenary work, like my guild.
The majority of guilds do join the Union, which does provide more strict governance, but also comes with the benefit of easier access to jobs. The Union looks out for its own, after all.
no subject
[ And honestly pretty amazing. And the fact that there was such a large group of them in the first place implied that it'd been working just fine for awhile. Perhaps a very long while.
Oh, wait. Come to think of it, he did recall something about 'guilds' before, though he couldn't remember why until now it sounded vaguely familiar. Granted, his discussion with Raven hadn't progressed to him asking what guilds actually were, or going too into detail. ]
...Actually, this reminded me of something. Would this 'Union' have a leader that's called the 'Don' that Raven mentioned before? He briefly mentioned someone like that when we first met.
[ He was curious, to see if it was more than a coincidence. ]
no subject
no subject
[ In order to keep people who were rough in line, it took a lot of...well, leadership skill. He knew that for certain. ]
Since it's the Guild Union's lead guild, does that mean they have a lot of variety in the jobs they take? Or is it specialized like yours and others are?
no subject
[As for Altosk...]
They mostly handle leadership and guild disputes, as well as general management of the Union. The Don often does send Raven out to do all sorts of tasks, but you'd have to ask him more about what those entail!
[He just knows that he keeps running into Raven!!!!]
no subject
Oh, alright.
...Has the Union ever had to fight with the Empire?
no subject
[and barbos would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids!!!! also there totally wasn't a second time, don't worry about it.]
no subject
[ People could be very slippery when it came to these kinds of things. Orchestrating such a long scale conflict implied that they were that level of clever...or lucky. That too. ]
no subject
[he's actually pretty damn sure that barbos is dead, buuuuuut no need to mention that!!]
